Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
Dude, you're kind of a jerk. I sure hope Buckley doesn't read your post. The guy has played parts of 3 games as a Cyclone and you are already talking about him not measuring up?? Wonder how you would react if people at your company started talking about you as 'not measuring up' after 3 hours of working at a company.
Well I may be a jerk but I am also being real. I expected more from Buckley. Nothing wrong with that. He could get good. It's not like I kicked him off the team. I just thought he was going to come in and take charge of the point guard spot.
It's what has been happening at Iowa State the last 3 years. You come in as a freshman and get playing time right away.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
gotta agree with the poster as to why you are so quick to discount DB. Seriously, you referring to him that way is .... tactless.
and for reference... can you name 3 point guards in the country that can come in and "take charge" in their first three games? And if you can, what % of PGs are able to that in college BB?

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
DG, while NOT a 2 guard, will slide to the wing a lot next season (and maybe even this season) to take full advantage of his athleticism and slashing abilities. Just needs to keep getting stronger and of course, work on that jumper...which in turn will make it easier for him to slash -

We say he is NOT a 2 guard I believe primarily because we don't see him as a consistent outside shooting threat. What he does bring to that position is slashing ability and height. We have struggled so hard to get one good playmaker/penetrator that it will be a luxury to have two on the court. The other guys will have to beat him out to take the PG away from him. What I do see, especially as we add a "truer 3" in Gilstrap, we will have more flexibility in matchups.

You guys should overreact to what said.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
Relax...3 games against no body at all is no reason to make a snap decision on Buckley or DG for that matter.
I hope Colvin comes just for the fact that half these guys might not be a year from now....

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
We all have different expectations of plays, he didn't rip the guy and say he was terrible, couldn't play at the D1 level, should pack it up and go home. He just he wasn't living up to HIS expectations.
He did say that Wes was playing above what he expected but no one said anything about that.

PG: Colvin/Buckley
SG: Garrett
SF: Staiger
PF: Brackins
C: JVB Vanderbeken is NOT a center. It seems to me that Buckley has a better shot than Garrett:
How about this:
1- DG
2- Buckley
3- Lucca
4- Brackins
5- Hamilton
JVB could sub in for any of 3-5 and Colvin could sub for any of 1-3.

Becasue Wes is playing above almost everybody's expectations and pulled game 1 out of his rear.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
Everyone on this site can't wait to just rip someone for saying something. The problem is they are ripping me for telling people I was expecting more from Buckley. I thought he had a lot of talent and could come in right away. I did not say he sucked or he should leave or anything like that. Just that I thought he could come in right away and play a bunch of minutes. Right now he is not doing that. I would fully expect Chris Colvin to come in and play a bunch of minutes. If he did not I am sure some of you would wonder what is going on with this top 100 recruit.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
Let's just calm down and take a step back from this. The only reason that people get ripped on is because they are wrong.
Seriously, though. Let's play nice, everyone.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
I think what we are seeing with Buckley is the affects of running an offense like McDermott runs. Its very hard to pick up. Garett and Petey struggled last year, so everyone assumed that Petey just wasn't cut out to play at this level and that Garett was really more of a SG than a PG. What we are seeing this year is that Garett can play the PG really well and that Petey, when not overmatched physically, can as well. We also see that Buckley looks a little lost early on, kind of like Petey and Garett did last year.
Buckley has the advantage of being able to learn from Petey and Garett which will increase his learning curve significantly.
In the future, I hope we don't have to have Garett and Buckley on the floor together a ton. Neither one of them looks to be a consistant outside threat, so I think that lineup would allow teams to sag and try to take away more of the inside game. It will be useful in cases where we are not shooting well.
I think the key to giving them both a good amount of playing time in the future is making sure that whomever is playin the 3 and 4 when they are both in can shoot the three.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
To anyone who has seen him play or is more in the know.....can Colvin shoot? i.e. - Is he thought to have a better shot than either DG or Dom coming out of high school? Neither of them were really considered shooters, but rather more true PGs. Colvin may well be more of a shooter than those two guys.
Just wondering.

Yeah there are actually about 20 that are starting as freshman. Some good some bad.

Re: Colvin to verbal on the 19th
im really really hope that colvin chooses isu. on a side not, would mac know a day or so ahead of when a kid is verbally committing to them? or do they find out along with everyone else? it seems that it kind of goes both ways.
