It wasn't really renovation work. Ames High re-sodded the field in the spring of 1993. The sheer amount of rain that happened that summer meant the sod never took root, and when the team tried to practice on the field in the fall all the grass got completely torn up. As a result, the team was forced to play at Jack Trice. They used the practice lights underneath the upper deck to illuminate the field.
Back to the original topic, I think the NCAA issue isn't with high school teams playing in college locations. It's when those high school games are somehow associated with college events as well (e.g. doubleheaders).

DM Lincoln and DM Hoover played all of their games at Vet's in the mid-70's. At the time that was Drake's home court. What's the difference?

DM Roosevelt plays (or did) its home games at Drake Stadium for football.

Well, the CIML basketball jamboree was held at the Knapp Center - owned by Drake and campus - a week and a half ago.
Illinois high school teams routinely play at on-campus sites. In fact, the super-sectionals in basketball are required to be held at college facilities...

Right, that was the response that JP got back...I don't think a stand-alone high school game would draw enough to make it worth their while to hire crews to work Hilton for a game, but with HB's rockstar status you never know...I just know it can't be affiliated in any way with the ISU games. We did the Iowa Energy doubleheader last year at Wells and it is a different deal since you don't have to mess with the NCAA crap...

I'm pretty sure it's not illegal or against the rules. When I was going to high school in Ohio, Lebron James' team played Alter at UD Arena.
