Could Ames High ever play a home game in Hilton?
I think that would be kind of cool

That would be pretty cool, give HB a taste of what it's like! I'm sure if an Ames High game was timed and promoted well, it would draw a big crowd.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -

Inviting HB's high school team to play at Hilton? The NCAA would have a field day.

Don't they already have a game scheduled for Wells fargo?

Re: Could Ames High ever play a home game in Hilton?
I'm surprised we didn't try this back in '90-'91.
We had standing room only at the AHS gym my junior and senior year's when DSM North and Hurl Beechum came to town. They even raised the curtain and added temporary bleechers in the 2nd gym. Several ISU players were watching from the east balcony.
Ames and North were two of the top teams in the state both years and the rivalry was pretty fierce. Both teams held serve at home with neither team winning by more than 6 points or so. Of course, we blew them out of the Barn during the State Tournament in '91. Fred was lighting it up early and often!! -

Ames played a year at Jack Trice for an entire season, but granted it was due to renovation work at the high school that forced it. So someone go tear up the high school bball court, then we can.
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -
Re: Could Ames High ever play a home game in Hilton?
Ames High has already played in Hilton....during the 1975-76 season with Chuck Harmison. They played at least one if not more in Hilton that year. They went undefeated and won the state title.

Little kids playing around at half time verses high schoolers is a whole different story.

Those were my high school days as well (Valley), and both Ames and North were exceptionally talented teams. As I recall Ames had several good players to complement Hoiberg (Koch, a guard with an African name and another 6'5" swingman). We somehow beat them in OT at home, as I remember (which may be incorrect - like Homer Simpson imagining talking to the president), but they liquified us in Ames by 30+. One of my good friends had the honor of being lit up for mega-points by both Beechum and Hoiberg that year. Something to put on the resume.
That 1990-1991 Ames team still stands out to me as the best HS basketball team I've seen in Iowa.

Re: Could Ames High ever play a home game in Hilton?
I would think that they could play there if there is nothing to do with ISU. I doubt they would be allowed to play before the ISU game like they do for the Energy at WF. But if you were to schedule it on a day that ISU isn't playing then I don't see how the NCAA would have a problem.
