Jon must not have much for his show today.

You can easily kill someone either way so I say they are both bad...no matter what the excuse is. Many of us have drove when we shouldnt have. Sometimes we still do. Is it right for us to make a big deal out of this. Same goes for the pub intox.

I heard this from several people, his teammates, and from Bob himself.
Bob was at a bar with a teammate. Bob had a few drinks in the first hour they were there. Bob pretty much always stopped at three or four drinks whenever he went out, he rarely ever had more than that. And Bob rarely went out drinking. He was all about being an athlete, and drinking to excess just wasn't something he did.
Right about the first hour of being there, one of his teammates, that had had some previous run ins with trouble, was spouting off, and it was looking like something bad could happen. Bob grabs the guy by the scruff of the neck and pulls him out of there. They get in the car and leave, and a tail light was out in the car Bob was driving. He was pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol, and did a field sobriety test. Bob passed the test, but blew at .08.
Kirk was told about the entire situation and the circumstances, and Bob was punished in house for his decision to get behind the wheel of a car. He should have still called a cab. This happened in the month of May.
My asking if the poster was a parent, is because every parent has different degrees of discipline depending on the ages of their kids, and the circumstances surrounding the infractions, if you will. It's not always just black and white.
Now, this year, Kirk has made it black and white. Given Iowa's laundry list of off field incidents the past nearly two years, he brought the hammer down on stuff that might usually be just a game, or in house punishment.
In my opinion, Kirk has been fair and level handed with stuff like this.
If you want to disagree with that, that's fine. Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man. -

I don't know what a better way would be, but I've blown well past that and still been conscious.

Ferentz has most certainly not applied a black and white approach this year. Look up the discipline meted out to Brandon Myers, Dalton, Riley Reiff, and Dalton. All received public intox. 3 of the 4 received interference with official acts. 1 received urinating in public. Yet, opposite of what Jon Miller claims, the punishment was not consistent. Don't give me the senior over freshman stuff. You already said that Kirk has declined to use that this year as an excuse for disicplining his players differently. What then does that leave for the justification of disciplining players differently despite similar/same offenses???
You guessed it. On-field performance.

Even if this was the only time he went out, the fact is he still got caught. I could care less if one of my kids told me this story of how they never go out and they were just "unlucky." Fact is you did it now you will pay the price for your actions which in this case could have been a lot worse possibly if he did not get pulled over. Simple fact and yes I am sure many of us have done the same thing.

No parent should be pleased with something like that, just like Kirk was not pleased and Bob was punished. But there are shades of gray in life. But in this thread, its all shades of cardinal and gold, with no quarter. So I'll leave the rest of it for you to hash out.

Re: Lickliter gives Tucker the Boot
I can't be too hard on him, I was doing the same things my freshman year. Who can forget sneaking into a bar, having one (or four) shots too many and yaking everywhere. The only difference is I was not a division 1 athlete, and definitely was not on full scholarship. I did, however, win a late-night co-ed basketball championship in intramurals, which is close to being a D-1 athlete.
