Re: Hilton magic is dead!
We moved over from our balcony corner seats to a section in the middle balcony, all 5 of us. From that perspective I watched the "big donors" in the lower section. It reminded me of WALL-E, which I watched for the first time today (no school here). A bunch of lazy, fat people that couldn't stand up and/or cheer. Sorry if that seems harsh but that's the facts. I was ****** earlier this week when a thread compared Hilton to CH but it is almost there. Yes, I know we need the money from those people but really, is it too hard to stand up and cheer every once in a while?

For what it's worth, nearly every school in America has the same problem with the best tickets going to folks that suck the energy out of the building.

that is something i did NOT expect from the cyclones at all.
I know i already said this but it was PATHETIC (insert throwing up smiley face) Hate to say it, but I think after Drake hit the 3-pointer to go ahead most people in the crowd expected to lose the game. I am guilty. I was cheering my butt off most of the game, but blowing that lead really takes the wind out of a crowd; especially when the team has given you no reason to expect anything but what happened for the last four years.
The students were solid tonight for the whole game. Thank you, students and keep it up. The rest of the crowd was so-so but I don't fault the crowd for losing a little faith after blowing a double-digit lead.

It's not the crowds fault but a better crowd would have helped

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
Some people including Pollard and McDermett need to get to work on this.....send a letter to those season tickets holders telling them how important they are, and we need you "all game long". The students are great, but, there just aren't enough of you. We could start the 80's thread again, but, back then we had 4,000 to 5,000 students at the game.
I'm starting to tear up....but yes, Hilton Magic is dead.

I was yelling from home about the throw the radio out the window if that counts.

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
The problem is having Cyclone Ally. Back in the day the students were sprinkled throughout the crowd - so they stood up and got loud the old people had to get up too (unless they didn't want to see the game).
Next time you watch one of the games from the 80's or early 90's - watch the crowd and the "lack of Cyclone Ally"

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
Wait a minute, I thought Hilton was the best home court in college basketball? At least that's what everyone on here thinks when they vote in those ridiculous online polls all the time. Just like I said a couple months ago, just because we flood some site doesn't mean it's true. Drake sure didn't think so.

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
We shouldn't need Hilton Magic to beat Drake. Hilton Magic was born beating conference teams that were ranked. Maybe the fans who showed up were in the mind set that we would beat a Missouri Valley team by 28 and they won't need to be loud, I don't know.

Originally Posted by vanillathrilla I agree that once CA came along it killed Hilton Magic... This exactly true. Every time you put a person willing to stand in front of someone who is unwilling, the person in back will say something. The person in front gives a look as if to say "Kiss my ***." Then the person in back gets over their ego and now you have two people standing and the process repeats.
Spreading the students around is like planting "cheerleaders" at rallies. You need the excitement dispersed throughout the crowd to rile the whole crowd.
