We expect to beat Drake and UNI everytime cause we are so used to it and when we can't people get bummed and don't feel like jumping up and down and yell at their lungs. You can't blame them thats what they feel like doing. It was easier to jump up and down when we were winning 20+ games a year but eventually that will happen again and these threads wont exsist.
On a side note when someone falls on the ice dont walk over them help them up my Dad fell on the ice and a guy walked right over his arm when he fell without helping. Have some common courtesy and help your fellow man out. That is so rude about what happened to your Dad. Hopefully he is ok.

Next time you watch one of the games from the 80's or early 90's - watch the crowd and the "lack of Cyclone Ally" This is one of my main theories, too. I've said several times in the last few years, Hilton's atmosphere sadly just isn't what it used to be and all I can think of that has changed is that seating configuration. We had some .500 seasons in there, too, but Hilton was still pretty awesome.

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
I'm not ready to throw Cyclone Alley under the bus yet. Did you see the students bowing to Lucca after his 5th three in the first 12 minutes? Or the intensity in the first half? Winning makes a huge difference in support. Students want to see wins just like everybody else. Sure there is caterwauling about CA ruining Hilton Magic but, you can't put it on their shoulders.
Personally, I have a membership to Cyclone Alley but try to move to the middle about 8 minutes into the game. They are better seats and I like to be a cheerleader.

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
Hilton magic didn't really start until Johnny Orr came and there was excitement. I was there for Lynn Nance's last season and there was stadium seating so we would show 15 minutes before the game and sit in the parquet easily. By the time I left 7 years later I was sitting in the top row in the end every game and lucky to have a ticket. Expectations are different now and none of our coaches have been showmen like Johnny Orr. Winning makes up for showmanship so Hilton magic continued. The other thing was that not many games were on TV so people had to go to the game to see the game. There was also a change in philosophy when Gene Smith became the AD. Money was more important than loyalty at that time. That is when the student seating came. Sorry for the history lesson, but I was there.

Re: Hilton magic is dead!
So here is a proposition. About 5 minutes into the game, members of Cyclone Alley should migrate to the side level seats that are not filled yet.
Three things will happen:
1) We will stand cheer, and encourage everyone to get up for the entire game.
2) They'll eject us. (Which I don't think will go over well with the remainder of the Cyclone Alley.
3) They'll force us back to our seats (probably most likely)

Great fans aren't only great fans when the team is great. That's what you call "fair weather" fans, certainly not "great". I was there also. Win or lose it was a crazy time. Johnny coming in to the pep band playing and then they were off. We had some horrible beat downs but when we played well the place got racous!

JO's teams would go on these torrid runs of fast break points and the other team would end up having to call time. PA announcer would scream timeout Missssssssouri.... and the crowd would go bezerk again. It was fun. Those teams couldn't win on the road, but the home atmosphere was unreal.
I remember a game against Billy Tubbs and OU. They were highly rated and the crowd was riding him pretty hard in the first half. OU led at half and Tubbs walked off the court pointing at the scoreboard. At the end of the game, Tom Schaefer hit a shot to win and the PA guy was screaming "Look at the scoreboard NOWWWW!" Fun stuff.

You always remember the highlights of college games Like the time we had 6 9 center, cant remember his last name but his first was David, going up against Minny and their 7' all american. David was called for a foul, picked up a technical and JO let him have it when he got to the bench. Of course, it might be more memorable because we kicked their butt in overtime that night.

I was there too. In fact, the first year of my season tickets were under coach Orr when Mal Warrick was our best player. Those were awful teams, but they played hard. For you younger posters. Hilton Magic is a phrase. For those that have been around and have felt the entire coliseum shake, it's real. Or was. It's gone now. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)

Must be a sign of aging but I don't even remember Mal Warrick. I do remember Ronnie Harris and then Barry Stevens.
