Until a team starts to burn you in transistion shouldn't we at least TRY to rebound? I agree completely, and this is one thing I don't understand about Mac. Especially as a three point shooting team, we are going to get long rebounds but right after the shot is taken, four people sprint down the court, meanwhile Drake crashes the board and is able to get multiple offensive rebounds. Is this something to do with our players not being aggressive, or Mac not wanting to give up fast breaks?

I also wonder why that happens. We aren't a very good rebounding team to start with but at least give it a shot

I too have been perplexed by our offensive rebounding woes so decided to do some research on ken pomeroy's site. He keeps track of several interesting statistics including offensive rebounding percentage. The past three years, as people have noted, we have been terrible at it, ranking around 300th nationally this year and last year and around 150th in Mcdermott's first year.
Now, looking back at UNI's three successful years under Mcdermott we see a similar result, they ranked over 300th nationally all three years.
So bottomline, this is likely a result of the system he runs. From a positive perspective it is possible to be successful with such weak offensive rebounding as seen by his days at UNI but whether or not that works at ISU and in the big 12 well have to wait to see.

Offensive rebounding doesn't bother me near as much as the defensive rebounding... It's one thing to get beaten on the glass if you are sending guys out trying to run, but we have no excuse to have one guy on the defensive boards...

Giving up offensive rebounds to the other team is quite frustrating I'll agree, however, the statistics show that is something this team isn't terrible at, we are currently ranked 41st in that category.
And even more hopeful is that during McDermott's runs in the tournament with UNI they were very good at grabbing defensive rebounds ranking 6th, 12th, and 7th those 3 years.
