I think what he was trying to say is that losing to Drake is not the end of the world....

That Drake game was like the first game of the year or damn near it.

However, continuing to lose games in which we have control late - is a serious issue.

We ended up having a great season only because we played tons better AFTER that game...

It would be one thing if the Drake game was the only bad game we have played this year, but it's not.... We have had more ugly games than decent games.

I know he wanted to go small to keep up with Drake's guys but when we did that was when we started to lose our grip on the lead. In the post game on the radio, McDermott said all we need to do to win with a 10 point lead and 5 minutes is defend well and rebound. I think that sounds like trying to coast to a win instead of sealing the deal.

Yea... early in the call in show he said we have no killer instinct
then later he said all we needed was to defend well and rebound.
I THINK what he was trying to say was that with that much time left and the lead all you have to do to win is play good defense and rebound the ball... at the very least. He obviously would have preferred to put the game away early or maybe even late... but when they started to gain on us, at the very least you have to defend well and rebound to win the game.
That's my opinion anyways

That is my biggest concern. Not simply losing to Drake, but losing a 10 point lead in the last 6-7 minutes -- at home. Same thing happened against Hawaii. I think McDermott is a great Coach and has things moving (maybe too slowly for some) in the right direction. But, that is a potential symptom of Coaching issues -- i.e. calling time-outs, making offensive or defensive adjustments, etc. to maintain the lead that you built over 3/4 of the game.

As our team gets better, our ability to put games away will too
