Also, Stinson and Blalock were technically LE recruits that stayed when Morgan was hired. The only guy that stuck with us when Mac was hired was Cory Johnson. I know you'll probably counter with "like I said, recruiting is 90% of coaching", but I think that's a load of crap when you're ISU. You HAVE to have the better COACH when you go against the Kansas/Texas/Oklahoma/Mizzou/Oklahoma States of the conference because you know that outside of a few abberations you aren't going to have superior talent to those teams no matter how good a recruiter you are so you had better be able to outcoach their coach if you want to win...
Let me know when Mac starts out coaching people. I'll be anxious to see it and put some hope behind this program. Right now I feel like we aren't brining in superiour athletes and we are getting out coached quite often, even in non-conference.
That UNI Team went to the NCAA tournament that year as well. They weren't nearly as bad as some of the MVC teams Mac has failed to beat while at Iowa State.
It's not Wayne Morgans fault that he had the support of the players when he took over and was able to re-recruit Curtis, Will, and Damion. He did lose one player, Justin Holt and returning players Adam Haluska and Tim Barnes.
You can think that this isn't about recruiting but if it wasn't we wouldn't pay so much attention to it. Signing day for football wouldn't be the busiest day on these kind of boards and we would talk about Calvin a year before he comes, Harrison Barnes three years before he enters college. We won't get better athletes then KU every year but we should at least be competing for the same level of players. The team with the better players is going to win 80% of the time.
I won't beat a dead horse any more tonight. But all I have asked for on this topic is one thing that would make someone like myself who wasn't excited about the GMac hire think twice about that opinion.
