Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -

Re: Just got back from Ames BB Game
Im a senior at ames high, those guards you talked about are bobu palo a senior who is very under rated, and the short one is micheal weber who plays with alot of heart. All i can say is that hb is amazing he completely dominated. Did you see that ally hoop or that dunk from like 6 ft away. HB can really float in the air. He is going to be one great cyclone(i hope)

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

Re: Just got back from Ames BB Game
I couldn't disagree more with the lazy/lackadaisical comments. I went to the game tonight and that was the fourth time seeing the team this year. What I see is a guy that plays within the team system, doesn't force things, plays tough D (shoots the gap a lot and is tough in the Ames trapping/pressing style with his long arms) and goes after rebounds hard.
Look, there's no doubt the kid could take the ball to the rack each and every time he touches it, probably get fouled or score and average 40 a game. But do you think that would help the team? They are smokin' right now and it's not just because of Barnes. McDermott is very, very solid fundamentally, can hit the pop out 3 and doesn't seem to miss from inside 5 feet. The kid that may be the most fun to watch for me is Weber, the little guard. He is great with the basketball in his hands, has no problem taking it to the hole and his 3-point shooting is probably the best part of his game.
Part of the reason Barnes may seem to some as being lazy is because he is so smooth in the way he moves around the floor...everything seems so effortless, especially against high school talent. But believe me, the kid is not lazy playing the game. At least, not in my eyes.

He plays for the attack so he gets good exposure there. But i def think he should he is very athletic and can drive on anyone. He would be a nice get for a lot of teams. He is just as good as Jesse Pritchard who is going to Yale.

Re: Just got back from Ames BB Game
Boo will have options. While he is very good at basketball he is very very good at soccer. He does already have soccer offers somewhere but I am not sure where. He plays on an elite team out of DSM. Weber too will have some D1 offers but not sure how high. Good shooter, great defender but his size will hold him back. Pritchard to Yale, McDermott already with 3 low D1 offers but will be much higher next year, and Kohler just got an ISU football offer this week but could be better at baseball. In summary, top 6 kids will definitely play D1 athletics while 2-3 more on AHS team could play basketball beyond HS, Stuve probably low D1 with Rodgers and Wandling needing to develop next year as srs but the talent is there.

Re: Just got back from Ames BB Game
Vince Carter never really scored a whole lot in high school either. His team was loaded and his average line would be about 22 pts, 10 boards and 8 assists a game. Of course a few of those would be trademark dunks... On the flip side, I also played against Daunte Culpepper and he used to drop 40 with ease...
