Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you sneak down by the bench you can see that Petey is the player that Mac talks to all the time. Mac tells Petey what sets to run and what adjustments to make. We will be able to replace his skill set next year but we will have trouble replacing his leadership, dedication, and knowledge of Mac's system.

Unless he comes back as a GA. He's still not on the floor, but his attributes are here to pass on to the team.

Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all, McDermott is a good coach. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of his players and he coaches accordingly. The only reason people on here love Bryan Petersen is because he does what McDermott asks him to do, and McDermott doesn't ask him to do much. If he had the responsibilities that Garrett or Staiger had on the court today offensively, you guys would all be singing a different tune.
He's not a great 3-pt shooter. Other guys create open looks for him and he shoots 36%. He's not that great a defender. He can chase Abrams, but he didn't have to help and he didn't have to rebound. His job was made a lot easier by McDermott's coaching. Maybe he's a heady player, but I think he's way overrated (on this board) in that department considering how much he actually has the ball on offense.
The reason we were in this game were because Garrett and Staiger took great care of the ball, and we rebounded well. The reason we lost this game was because we did not get enough good shots, and it's hard to get a lot of good shots when you have a guy like Bryan Petersen playing 34 minutes.
He's like the David Eckstein of ISU basketball. The same guys who hated Mike Taylor probably love Bryan Petersen. I love the guy, but I sure wish we had an average big 12 guard to play over him right now.

I don't disagree with most of your post, but if it was so easy to guard Abrams, why can so few seem to do it effectively? Give credit where credit is due. Petey played a great defensive game.

Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
Petey's also a dynamite dancer and not bad at pong either.

Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is a smart player, that doenst force shots, and makes othter better. He is better as SG and him not having to run the team has helped his game. He is also a teacher on the court. He gets more out of his talent than any Cyclone in a long time.

Petey played a great defensive game. Petersen played well on defense, but he is getting way more credit than he is due for that game. For ISU to rebound that way against Texas is way more impressive to me than holding Abrams, who hasn't been shooting well, to 8 points or whatever it was he got.

It'd be nice if we had a SG that could score, like most teams, so we didn't have to put so much pressure on Brackins, Garrett, and Staiger to create offense. Petersen does not make those guys better. Those guys would not put up the counting numbers, but they would be so much more effective, and we would be a better team if we had a SG that was a threat on offense.
Petersen is also lucky that we have a 6'4" guy that plays PG. Height correlates to how well a team plays defensively, and he benefits from having a PG that can defend a taller player. I wish we could play teams that started a guy like Petersen every game.

This is exactly what I'm saying. We need our other guys to do more, so Petey can just do what he can do. And what he can do is minimal, compared to other B12 shooting guards.
I like the guy, he plays hard and smart, I just think we still have a lot of room for improvement at that position.

He is the leader this team desperately needs and continues to set an example for the players around him. He is smart and works hard, what else do you want from a walk-on Doc?

Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last week everyone hated him, now everyone loves Petey?
Seriously, this is a kid that should not be playing d1, but he works his butt off and mac rewards him for that. Maybe it's sending a message to other players in practice or maybe he actually outplays other guys in practice, but either way ISU needs to increase the level of talent on the floor
Poor players + mediocre coaching= losing results

Poor players + mediocre coaching= losing results I don't think it's any secret that we need better players but we have what we have right now so why can't we praise the players we have for working their ***** off and being great leaders? Besides, who would you have playing over him?

Re: Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!
One great thing about Petey - he keeps Sean Haloser off the court. Why that guy sees one minute of court time is beyond me.
