Re: Summary?
Nah, I'll stick to my original plan for the day. Unless we can prove that there is a Circut City in Ankeny....

ISU players are down, GMac said he thinks that's a good thing because it shows the players care about their performances.
That's the jist of what I recall.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Mizzou's 6th man is Marcus Denmon who scored 16 points tonight. I can't even tell you who is ISU's 6th man. Thompson?
I'm really concerned about the talent on this ISU team. We've got some freshman and sophomores sitting on the bench who aren't showing much promise (Eikmeier, Buckley, Mann, Boozer, etc.). Where would we be without Justin Hamilton!
Next year is the year McD better get things done (w/ Colvin, Gilstrap and Pomlee). If those guys don't help out in a big way, we're probably stuck with more bad basketball for the next 3-4 years. Whoa............I'll have to disagree with you on three of those comparisons. I have to go with Lucca, Craig and J. Ham over the three you compared there. Lyons is a senior and J. Ham played toe to toe with him today. I think Brackins and Lucca over the other two are no-brainers.
As far as today's game, my eyes are still bleeding. Our weak ballhandling and lack of recognizing shooters today was atrocious. Just because we "only" had 13 turnovers against Missouri's "soft" pressure doesn't mean we handled the ball well. Also, if a team is hot from the perimeter please adjust to it. Close out hard and make them take it inside. Do something to get them out of rhythm.
I will be really disappointed if we don't beat Mizzou handily when they come to Hilton. They are not that much better than us.

Re: Summary?
Here is my assessment:
Our offense just could never get it in gear. When we got to the hoop, we either missed the shot or got blocked. We did a decent job of managing the press this game. It was good to see improvement in that area. But, I thought a critical point of the game is when we had the ball, down 9 with about 13 seconds to go. Petersen sprinted up court and attempted a very awkward lay-up. That gave Mizzou another couple of chances to score, although they didn't. Ideally, we could have held for the last shot and gotten to within 6 or 7. At that point, we were down 29-20.
The second half started out really poorly for our defense. They were getting open look after open look and were knocking them down. They started the second half 9-11 from the field, and seemed to break our will. They ended up going 13-25 from three while we went 2-17. Lucca never really looked for any shots til we were down by 20. Hamilton had a pretty solid game. More than a few guys looked completely lost out there for us today.
I also don't think it's that hard to believe that we can beat this Mizzou team in Ames. They play pretty well at home, but they just lost at nebraska last weekend. And playing nebraska at nebraska is not quite like playing Duke at Duke. I think a week off will do wonders for the team...and all of us...

Re: Summary?
the first half was bad, but we still managed to hang around. we turned it over a thousand times, but somehow we were still in the game (down 9)
second half - mizzou went nuts. they were scoring like crazy. it got out of hand quickly and i started checking in on some other games.

As far as I know (and I could be wrong because maybe I just don't know college basketball as well as you guys do) Missouri has never been a good road team in conference. There pressure looked anything but suffocating today. They aren't a freakishly talented team. We match up very well with them in the paint. Also, I highly doubt that they shoot it as well from three again. As far as I'm concerned, we play a decent game, not great, we win in Ames. OR, we play like we did against SDSU and all that doesn't matter.

I agree. Nothing about Missouri screams out that they would dominate like that 2nd half time and time again. It was their day today. Next time is another day.
