Watched Chris Colvin play
last night. I had in on my DVR and just got to it. Here is my take on him compared to what we currently have from our guards.
He obviously is very quick but what sets him apart is HOW he finishes at the rim. DG is taller and has longer arms but when he goes to finish near the rim he doesn't really get off the ground and thus he gets blocked a lot. When Colvin would drive to the hoop he would really jump and attack the hoop. Even though he is shorter he gets the ball off at a much higher point than DG which will make it harder for him to get blocked and should make him a better finisher.
Before anybody says that high school is different than college, remember that Colvin was going up against the 6'10 Wear twins that are going to UNC. If he can drive and finish against them, than he should be able to against just about anybody

How does his game compare to Will Blalock's?
Re: Watched Chris Colvin play

I want to know what Cyclone player his game most resembles. For some reason I picture Mike Taylor but I don't know why I think that never seeing Colvin play. I think it is the constant quotes saying he isn't a true point guard but is an explosive athlete and can really get hot shooting the ball.

Better size and shot than Blalock. Was actually impressed with how smooth his shot looked.
I think he can be a better freshmen than Blalock was b/c of his size. Don't know how he measures up to him in regards to quickness though

And LSU was the team in the country this year!:biglaugh:
Just giving you a hard time. There is no doubt that DG will start next year. I think the question is whether it is at 1 or 2

I don't have a good one to be honest. He plays a lot more under control than Taylor (but who didn't) but probably isnt quite as explosive.
One complaint is I thought he threw some lazy cross court passes. None of them were turnovers but still weren't good passes. Liked everything else about his game. Including his defense

Does he have guns like Blalock?
I really like our two signess for next year. Assuming Brackins comes back the dry spell should be over for ISU fans. Not a minute too soon, its been a long few years.
Re: Watched Chris Colvin play

He may start in the beggining of the season but if he doesn't put on 15lbs of muscle, he will have a hard time keeping his minutes with Colvin and Buckley. Once Buckley learns the system, he will see a lot of minutes. He has shown he can get to the hoop and finish with his size. Garrett can get near the hoop, but not close enough to finish.
