[quote=ISUFan22;862274]No. This is not on Lucca. He had a career game against Drake and we still managed to lose...right?
I'm sure Staiger is a nice guy, and does what GMac is asking him to do offensively. However, the Drake game points out the basic issue with this team - players (outside of Brackins) would much rather shoot threes than work for better shots inside and perhaps get fouled.
The story of the Drake game was free throws: we attempted 6; Drake attempted 26. Staiger shot none.
A couple of posters on here have mentioned picks or screens, that is the number one difference in my mind in the game on Saturday. The picks set by Kansas were hard picks, not just going to set a pick because it is in the offense, but setting a pick with a purpose. The other part of that equation is how hard and close the offensive player went off of that pick to really use it. We have a tendency to slide on picks rather than try and run the defender into the pick. That would help tremendously in getting an open look or getting the big man open on the roll off the pick. We set numerous picks up high in games, but many of them tend to be soft (by person using the pick and person setting the pick) and tend to not be useful.
That being said, I was proud of the effort of the players and fans.
The story of the Drake game may have been free throws, but Lucca more than did his part. Craig and Diante should be the ones getting to the line the most. They didn't much that game...
