Coach Mac vs. OU
The players were not the only ones that showed some fire. It was refreshing and down right encouraging to see Mac give it to the refs and...gas...actually yank a player for poor performance. As you may recall, DG was not exactly off to a stellar start. I saw a sense of urgency today. I hope it continues.

It looked that that one referree had to be separated by an assistant coach. From 216, it appeared that he was following Mac to continue their discussion. Did I see something wrong?

If you're a player you have got to love the fact your coach is out there fighting for you. Love the passion!

Re: Coach Mac vs. OU
yeah i saw Craig trying to hold coach mac back from getting a technical.

Noone should charge at McD. Im pretty sure he could crush most people into a fine powder if he was upset enough. Ref or anyone else.

Frankly, I think one of the problems we had with McCarney and it looks like we have with McDermott is that they were/are too "comfortable" with their job security at ISU.
I know a lot of you do not like Roy Williams but he is a guy that always has a sense of urgency (I happen to think because of his upbringing in a very poor home). The great ones seem to always have this urgency...whether they are undefeated and have just one the championship or their team is struggling. The not so great ones tend to coast until they start feeling the heat...some can turn it on and some cannot.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

BS. Roy Williams has a killer instinct. Not everyone opperates the same way and I doubt either of the mentioned felt their job was secure forever. I doubt any coach in America does minus Fennely but even Bill doesnt live thinking that way. Gimme a break.

GMac seems to have a low-key style, but in today's era, I doubt that any coach really feels that they are in a "secure" job.

Mac was unfortunately outdone by Pat Knight...

Mac has a sense of urgency. Trust me.

Re: Coach Mac vs. OU
McDermott needs to get more T's. I have said it since he came to Iowa State and people disagreed with me, but it gets the crowd so pumped. We don't get half the calls at Hilton we used to and that is b/c he doesn't work over the officials as much.
I saw that fire yesterday and I loved it! Hope to see more of it going forward. I swear he used to get riled up at UNI, but at ISU he has been considered a nice guy. Being a nice guy is great as long as you show some emotion

I think he will do just this. It was pretty cool to see him all fired up to the point people had to come get him off the court.

There is a time a T can be a dagger in your team (see: down by 6 with a minute to go against a highly ranked team). In that situation, it'd be a bad technical. However, if you're up 7 or 8 against a ranked opponent and your team is squandering a huge lead, that might be a time to put some fire into the crowd and your team.

That might be the most ridiculous "observation" I've read on here.

He's basing this on nothing...as usual....must be nice to just make up stuff and pass it along as a fact...
