Re: Bill Fennelly should be the Men's Bball coach...
I absolutely hate it when people completely try to discredit someones opinion with a statement such as "BS post" and "Oh dear lord". If you don't agree with the guy put forth your reasons. Don't act like you are some all-knowing basketball efficiendo and the rest of our opinions are pure rubbish in comparission to your enlightened opinion. Do I think BF could have done much better with this team? Probably not. But I am of the opinion he could coach our men just as well as McD has. If you are going to act like this guys opinion is completely **** then put your opinion out there for the rest of us to blast.
This is a message board...it only survives on a variance of opinions. Some people here act like their opinion is the only reasonable one.

Doesn't matter when you win. Fenelly wins (and it started early). Heck, I really think if Greg could just beat a ranked team at home, alot of people (self included) wouldn't be so damn frustrated. I can't think of a 3 year stretch this side of Johnny that we failed to beat a ranked opponent at home...
Re: Bill Fennelly should be the Men's Bball coach...
The womens team could out-shoot the mens any time. Three pointer, free throws, don't matter. If they played a game of "make it take it" the women could beat the mens.

Really??? Bill Fennely made it into the NCAA tourney in his second year at ISU. In that year, we beat #9 Texas. In his third year, we make it to the second round of the NCAA's, after beating #5 Texas Tech, #17 Alabama, and #25 Nebraska.
I know you can't see anything wrong with McD, but don't crap on Fennelly because of it.

Try looking one post up. And I'm pretty sure that my original post covered the only salient point. To compare Fennelly's success in an upset win after ten years on the job to build the program is just plain rediculous.
Not to take anything away from Fennelly, but it's like saying that Pat Summit would have won a national championship by now, if she had been the men's coach here for three years.

I apologize. I only said BS post to counter his BS thread comment. I don't do that otherwise.

Step off. I never crapped on Fennelly. And I've never said that there's nothing wrong with McDermott.

All right, so I was wrong about how fast Fennelly turned it around. I'll still point out that it's not the same.

You posted in it. So what does that make you exactly?
It's a different animal but I think BF could have at least coached the team to the record we have now. In other words it wouldn't hurt anything.
Sorry was my post BS, Aclone? I forgot to run it by you for approval.

Maybe she would have in some's opinions...no one is saying it is an empirical fact that BF would be a better men’s coach than McD. It is someone’s opinion, and really when it comes down to it that is all we have to go on at this site. I am not trying to back up the notion that McD will never succeed, or that BF would be a better choice, I am just saying don't pop off at the mouth acting like your opinion is the only enlightened one on this bored.

That's right it's not the same. Fennelly did it, and it sure as heck was in his first three. What it shows is that the right coach can make things happen.
I was just turned off by the "BS thread" and "not to take anything away from Fennelly" comments, and the blind love for McD at the expense of what Fennelly's done.
Re: Bill Fennelly should be the Men's Bball coach...
If anyone is actually taking this thread seriously, lighten up a bit. It's a joke just to get people riled up on here.

Yes, I'm sure that "the right coach" would have magically succeeded with a whole three(?) scholarship players back for his first team, being forced to kick his best player (and only point guard) off his second, and having his best player (and wing) transfer from his third. I have no idea why you insist on ignoring those circumstances, all beyond Mac's control.
Fennelly did a great job. But he was also fortunate not to have to deal with a lot of the crap that McDermott has had to--nor the pressure he faces.

What in heaven's name do you think "not to take anything away from him" means? Fennelly is an excellent coach!
And "blind love" for Mcdermott is pure horse hockey.
Sure, he's made mistakes, among others, in recruiting (Vette and Brister)--but those aren't preeminent to his current problems. I am, however, willing to cut the guy some slack for all of the garbage he's had to deal with.

Thank you. Some posters have no respect for others.
Re: Bill Fennelly should be the Men's Bball coach...
I think Fennelly would do about the same as Mcd right now through the first 3 years.
Re: Bill Fennelly should be the Men's Bball coach...
they should let him coach one practice and see what happens
