Missouri....why not ISU?

Seeing Missouri win at Texas last night made me a little sad. How have they been able to turn their program around while ISU is still struggling? Let's face it Missouri's program in a horrible state too when pretty boy Quinn got the mud boot. The didn't have much talent on their team either and they hired a coach, who like McD, had had some success at a smaller D-1 school.

Look at the two programs now. Missouri is on it's way to the NCAA tourney, and ISU will we lucky to win another game in the Big 12 this year. Why is this happening?

Is it the recruits being brought in? Maybe, although I think the two schools lately have had pretty similar recruiting classes. No, if you ask me the reason Missouri is winning and ISU is losing in the system the coaches run. Mike Anderson runs an uptempo offense with high pressure defense. He needs athletes and he's brought them in. McD runs a stand around, watch, and wait for the shooters to get hot offense, that so far hasn't worked.

What's the point of this post? I'm not really sure. I just get disappointed when I see what Missouri has been able to do, and how sucky ISU continues to be.

I wouldn't say it's that simple. Player for player I'm not sure that Missouri's guys are that much better than the Cyclones. I think they fit their coaches system better and that system is a better fit for Big 12 basketball.

You need to watch ISU play basketball...once. We have very few B12 caliber players.

System has nothing to do with it. You can make any system work anywhere. If you havent noticed..the system McD has in place works for most of the game. The only problem is the players arent scoring, which has nothing to do with the system. It has to do with them clanging out of the rim. Other teams arent consistently blowing us out. Some have, but it happens. We just cant have scoring droughts with our margin of error.

I agree...better athletes at Mizzou. There really isn't any question about it.

You obviously have an agenda.

Why don't you just support the team and express some patience.

Do I like McD as our coach, not really. I guess that's my agenda. Do I support the team? I watch all the games and cheer for them even though I know in the end they will find someway to blow it. I just find it sad that Missouri has been able to get back to prominence faster than ISU.

It's not my fault I'm the type of guy that sees things going badly and questions them.

A few things that I see-

1. From what I can tell Mizzou hasn't had to deal with the mass defections that ISU has had to deal with - GMac has had to make the core of his team players that at best would be role players at some schools and benchwarmers at others. As guys like Colvin and Gilstrap come in, and as guys like Pomlee, Brackins, Garrett, and Staiger grow up, we'll see if improved talent does for this program.

2. Undisciplined play down the stretch. It's getting really frustrating to see our players play the most disciplined basketball for 35 minutes of a game and then down the stretch, after the opponent makes 2-3 straight baskets, watching our kids on the floor begin to panic and go into desperation mode and throw that discipline away by making really poor decisions with the ball such as taking rushed, ill-advised shots and extremely poor passes.

3. Execution. Our guys get a LOT of open looks throughout the game that have to go through the hoop, plain and simple.

Yes, this is my biggest frustration.

So, what's the timeline for patience? How many years do I have to sit and be quiet and agree with our coach before I can voice he sucks? I need to know, I've got three years in.

Speaking for myself, other than recruits coming in next year and beyond, yes. Other than Brackins, Garrett, and maybe Lucca, how many looks did these other guys get? Ham is a great find. Gotta give credit.
