What does the last 100 years have to do with anything? How many recruits know what happened 100 years ago? How many have we been to in the last 20 years? That's all that matters...

It has nothing to do with anything. But this "ISU fans overestimate our status as a program" stuff is still continuously brought up...probably because if you insinuate there is a precedent for somewhat consistant success at ISU, then there is a reason for fans to expect to win a few basketball games. This way, when we muddle through three seasons of stuff like this, you can just shrug it off and remind yourself and everyone else that we've never really been good.

I can support this opinion. When that's happening, it's a real solid program.

Unless we go all Hawkeye and fire a coach for making the 2nd round of the NCAAs every year. But we can deal with that problem when we get there.

Very true. I understand the situation, and that helps me to be patient, but I remember winning for quite a while, and I really long for the day that I can take it for granted the way I used to. Really, I hope that I've learned not to take it for granted by now.

Personally, I could care less about the NIT. It's more of a consolation prize that an accomplishment. So if McDermott takes us to the NCAA tournament next year, he will be meeting your expectations on the NCAA tournament correct?

I would say the NIT next year would be a nice step from what Mac inherited, but I still think that an NCAA bid is possible next year. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but I can't help being optimistic. It's just me

Nope, not unless he reals off a few post seasons in a row... I just don't see us making a big enough move next year though, too many other Big XII teams already ahead of us are reloading...

You just said you expect 1-2 NCAA tournaments every 4 years. If Mac gets us to one next year, how does that not meet your NCAA tournament expectation?

Because he will need to follow it up with another NCAA or a couple of NIT's. Catching lightning in a bottle once every four years is not consistantly winning...

Our only chance is to see massive player development during the off season by 2-3 guys who can completely upgrade or change their game...

those chances aren't often too good.

and we will likely lose our two best players (if Gilstrap is as good as advertised) after next year leaving our front court very thin... It could be a pretty big step back the following year...
