The craziest part of that Kansas game was when Holloway hit that 3-pointer to put them ahead. It seems as though he only took 10 shots his whole career and then he nails one of the biggest shots in ISU history.
Great-great story. He was an explosive Cyclone ball player.
I still get chills watching that Big 8 Championship final minute. Yeah Clones!
Willoughby had a sweet shot. One of if not my favorite Cyclone. He was the reason for the tourny title , his number belongs in the rafters of Hilton.
Pratt was getting arrested all the time in Ames. He was good player though wasnt afraid to get nasty on the court.
I think other teams didn't like K.P because he was a 6'4" power forward who nobody could stop.. Floyd's brand of tough defense was something the league hadn't seen. I remember Rob Boy hypocritically ******** about our defense when he was losing to us.
Here is that link to the final minute-
I am more amazaed at the size of those teams. Thick players. Tall players. Then I look at what we have now. big difference.
I was at Iowa State 95-99 and this just brings back all those memories...what a fun team to watch!!!!
Glad to hear he is doing well.
I like to get my Hawk friend all riled up by telling him about how good Jacy Hollaway was...he hated him. Reminds me of that thread earlier about players we hated in the Big 12, I could see how other teams hated him, he shouldn't have been there!!! That guy didn't make many mistakes and I am sure that is what ate at my Hawk friend.
That clip is the best basketball I've seen from ISU all season....
Alright, sorry, that probably could have gone unwritten. Anyway, I still remember where I was watching that game; at Pepper's in Cedar Falls. When the final buzzer sounded, I let out a wild whoop of joy, hugged the Cyclone fan next to me (whose name I didn't even know and wasn't expecting a hug), and ran out of the building completely forgetting to pay for my drink. When I went back in to pay for it, the bartender told me it was on the house since I had had such a good time there.
About Dedric, the summer after I graduated from UNI, I was back in Ames for the summer of '97 working for the city for their day camp program. We were at Brookside park one day and the kids I was supervising and I met none other than Dedric just by random chance. He was a really nice guy and talked to the kids and I about basketball and he even let the kids try on his championship ring. From that moment on, he became one of my all-time favorite Cyclone players ever.
Great read and video...wow the memories!
That was one of my favorite Cyclone moments. National TV, noon tip on CBS. I sat upper deck, first row, mid court and it was all KU fans in my section except the guy next to me. All game long they were saying they were going to break the game open, that our bubble was going to burst. That game was intense as half the arena was KU fans and the other half ISU. We stayed right with them and pulled it out at the end. The KU fans were absolutely stunned. When the buzzer sounded myself and the Cyclone fan next to me, who I did not even know, got up and whooped it up as did all the Cyclone fans at Kemper. The noise level did not go down for about 10 minutes after the final buzzer. It was incredible. There is no doubt ISU has the best basketball fans in the conference.
