I've never had a bad experience in that town (of course, I've only been there twice), but I have yet to hear a good thing about it. I've had a lot of interesting experiences in that town, but they might not be unique to Marshalltown. They just happened to be there.
I've had interesting ones in every town, really. I guess I'm just an interesting guy.
Which is why I'm hanging out posting this on the Internet.

All the new stores are mandated to purchase their beef from Maid-Rite corporate and it comes pre-cooked in vacuum sealed packs which are heated up in hot water. They suck!
The other thing unique about Marshalltown is that they don't (or didn't) have ketchup in the store. Waitress told me 20+ years ago they couldn't afford it during the Depression and it hadn't been available since!
As for the guy who lives in Jasper County (with uncle from Joplin), there used to be a great old-time Maid-Rite in Newton. It shared a parking lot with a near identical restaurant that also featured loose beef sandwiches named Snook's Inn. I'll bet Newton wouldn't be as far out of his way!

Man, you are making me hungry for a maid-rite, lets head to Marshalltown. Maybe, the Pyramid would be open. Ha ! Ha !

It is my understanding that Ketchup is now in Marshalltown.

Re: Hawkeye fan taunts Harrison Barnes
I've lived in Marshalltown for most of my 41 years and I haven't seen too many mullets lately. Of course, most of us wear Davy Crockett coonskin caps so it is hard to see much in the way of hairstyles.

Re: Hawkeye fan taunts Harrison Barnes
No ketchup because hobos would take the stuff to make soup with.
If in western Iowa, try a 'Charlie Boy' at Miles Inn in Sioux City. A made rite with a little zing. Goes down well with a 16 oz schooner.

Re: Hawkeye fan taunts Harrison Barnes
I loved getting heckled by opposing fans back in high school.
I was at a game earlier this year where every time a guy named Schmidt would score, the fans would chant "Holy Schmidt."

When I was at MHS, Ames left the now defunct Big 8 conference to play in the Des Moines Schools pretty boys conference. Therefore Ames was really really hated and really really heckled. By the way, all of our starting five sported mullets.

Am I the only one who believes that this thread was created by a liar? One post, no replies in his own thread.
This tool has stirred the pot, and he got some results.
Carry on.

Wow. Marshalltown must be loaded with some hideous looking folks then.
