Re: Mizzou didn't have much more to work with

We lost our best player the last two years. We got 1 years out of Taylor and they got 1.5 out of Hannah, so that's pretty even.

So how good do you think Mizzou would be this year if Carroll had left after last year?

Probably better than us, but definitely not ranked.

    Interesting question...

If you removed Carroll from Missouri's lineup...we matchup alot better. It just so difficult with our current roster to matchup with him.

Re: Mizzou didn't have much more to work with

Yeah, so Mizzou players are more loyal to their program. Why is that? How are they able to inspire loyalty, while our 'best players the last 2 years' have jumped ship? CORRECTION: 1 jumped ship, they other F'd up. I guess that is the crux of the problem if I am reading everyone's responses correctly. Why do our best players keep leaving, while teams like Mizzou are able to hold on to theirs?

Regardless of my correction, the point remains - for some reason, McD is unable to inspire loyalty among his players.

Missouri has upperclassmen that contribute tons. We have underclassmen that contribute. In the next year we'll see improvement. Even more in two years.

Just hope that everyone doesn't jump ship by then.

Mike taylor didn't jump ship because of loyalty. FYI. He got in trouble.

while I dont always agree with what you say...this is a very valid point.

Mizzou had all kinds of issues in the wake of the Snyder era and during the Anderson era. Snyder left them on probation and last year the Mizzou basketball program rap sheet rivaled the Hawgeyes. They have just as many excuses not to be good as the Cyclones.

    A) I agree, I hate seeing Mizzou doing well this year considering they started out with their new coach not that different from us.

    B) I think other than their upperclassmen, the main reason they are winning is because of their style of play. It works MUCH better in the Big 12 than what McD tries to do. Their coach has brought in players that match what he wants to do. Another thing that apparently McD hasn't done yet.

Maybe if he was so loyal to McD, he would have listened to his words and not got into trouble again.

Re: Mizzou didn't have much more to work with

One mistake GMac made was telling all of the UNI kids to honor their committments. While it was the honorable thing to do it did hurt our program. I'm not saying we should have taken a bunch of UNI players but I think Koch would be a very nice complement to CB up-front and Egleseder would give us much more offensively off the bench than AT. I'm not sure if their point guard committed before or after GMac left but I would take him in a heartbeat. He really seems to understand their offense. He has the size and quickness to play in the Big XII. While UNI would still struggle in this conference cherry picking 2-3 of their top kids would have helped add stability to our program. Winning 11 in a row in the Valley is impressive no matter what you think of the conference.

Re: Mizzou didn't have much more to work with

The bottom line is there are a number of fairly new coaches in the Big 12, and some have been moving up while we have been moving down. Despite all the excuses (some of them lame), we have good reasons to be concerned about GMac (no winning seasons, no wins over top 25 teams, and no post season, even though it's now easier than ever to get into the NIT). He's being given a chance far greater than JP gave Morgan, and we need to see some improvement real soon.
