Starting the Let's Keep McDermott Bandwagon!!!!
I'm so sick of reading everyones post on here saying this and that about McDermott needing to be fired etc etc.....
I just read on another thread a post from MustangCy and it led me to write this thread.....why is McDermott taking all the blame? After all, right now its about two things execution and talent. The execution really depends on having the talent to be able to execute. Only 1 player has the talent to execute regardless of the competition. DG is so inconsistent, when he's on, he's really really good. The one aspect of his game thats lacking imo is aggressiveness.
Talent or lack there of....Why not blame morgan, Taggart, Dunson, Stinson, Blalock, Johnson, Johnson, Taylor, Mcintosh, Degand, Brister, Vette and Carr. The entire class of 2006 which should be juniors are gone! That leaves us with young guys across the floor and our coach is hung out there trying to assemble recruiting classes that fill major roles in the program for which he's gonna be judged in the first three years. Then your star player turns his back on the coach and program and leaves. (Sounds like Chizik)
Now you can preach all you want about coaching and i remember everyone on here clucking about will mcdermott be able to recruit big 12 caliber players. Well, in my opinion, McDermott's now established his staff, and the direction of the talent this staff is currently chasing/securing is in the direction that will put ISU in a position to succeed. Since 2002, we've signed 4-4* players and 2-5* players(only one made it to campus). This staff has recruited a top 20 overall player in brackins, and top 150 players in Colvin, and Dykstra not to mention the chance we have at Barnes. Lets not forget that by the time that Gilstrap gets to campus, based on his season, he will be a 4* recruit as well.
The talent is on the way, give the coach a chance to really establish his team, with talent and if he fails, i will support the cause. To me, he's just now getting his feet on the ground, the supporting cast is appearing on the horizon with solid starters returning in Brackins, Hamilton and Garrett - throw in there a legit #1 and a legit #3, and suddenly this lineup has the horses to get the job done.
As much as anyone here wants to win, so do i - most competitive person i know - just ask my wife and kids!!!! But, i have to be realistic too. The very reason why were all praising the hiring of Rhoads because he is someone that will stay if he wins - thats how i also see Mcdermott.
Give him and this team the respect they deserve and support them the way Cyclone fans are known to support their teams - regardless of success, we will support our team. The truest form of real fans!!!!

I say he should be safe after this year but if he has anyone transfering then there are some issues there. I really think that if he isn't in the NIT next year then his seats going to be burning hot

Good post with valid arguments. Nice to see something positive.

Re: Starting the Let's Keep McDermott Bandwagon!!!!
I am very much on board with this.
I have questioned McD several times this year - mostly out of frustration after a loss, but I have always maintained that I support him and believe we are better off now than we were before he got here.
I really believe that he will get this going, and we will all be relieved that Pollard didn't listen to us in 2008/2009.

We support a football program that for years hasn't done alot of anything and not complained as much as we have about this basketball season why is that i wonder.

Re: Starting the Let's Keep McDermott Bandwagon!!!!
He has me until at least 2011. He's got players coming in so I think we should be much more competitive starting next year. But with these new players means he's going to have to start showing serious improvement, or I just may be off the bus after '11.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

Re: Starting the Let's Keep McDermott Bandwagon!!!!
I'm not against McDermott, but it is his responsibility to recruit players to fit his system and who can win at a high Division I level, to get players to gel as a good basketball team, and to retain them. He's had some tough luck, but in the end, it falls on his shoulders. This is his program, and he is in charge. To me, a sign of a really good coach is one who can lead a team to victory over a more talented team - to outcoach the opponent. I realize we have inferior talent right now, but I haven't seen many wins over teams I felt had better players. Thus, we are 1-7 in conference.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)
