Eddie "Chia Pet" Hightower

Below is a copy/paste of my comments about him from the in-game thread. You can go to just about any message board in the country and see people complaining about him. When he calls a game, you can almost gaurantee that there will be about 50 fouls called and the lion's share of those will be on the visiting team.

"Ed Hightower is, was and always will be all about Ed Hightower. Ed Hightower has insisted on being the center of attention of every game Ed Hightower has reffereed for decades. The man - Ed Hightower - has ruined the viewing of more basketball games by inserting Ed Hightower's will on the game than any other referee that I can think of. It's funny how it is always so obvious when Ed Hightower officiates a game but 99% of the other officials remain basically anonimous. "

If a majority of fans know any official's name, it is not a good thing. Kind of like if fans know the parent of a player (see P Bates Jr.).

Another thing that you can count on in an Ed Hightower game: at some point, he will become the focal point of the situation. Whether making a big deal to "ensure" a call is right or stopping the flow of the game to "check the clock". Pretty regular occurrence in games where he is officiating.

He always seems to do 20 ISU games a year.

I think they does 3 games a day some times.

We don't like him either. That being said, he always seems to work games fairly deep into the dance, so the NCAA must have a different opinion. The man is an attention whore.
