Re: Do Fans Not Pay Attention To Defense?!
I agree completely with the original poster in that a lot of people seem to completely forget about how bad defense some play when they come in and do a couple things on offense. I like Buckley's potential but he hit 1 three yesterday and probably gave up nearly 10 points to his guy on the other end. This is the same frustration I have with VanderBeeken too that he basically is a spot up shooter and hardly rebounds or plays defense half the time. What good is a guy on the floor if he's giving up considerably more than he scores? I'd like to see Boozer get more minutes and some shots off because he has a great build for the Big 12 and has improved imensely on defense.

exactly. The real problem with this team is when they fail defensively they think the way back into the game is offense, so they press too hard and make bad decisions offensively, turn the ball over because they can't find an offensive rythm, and then lose concentration on the defensive end.
wham bam down by 12....
Re: Do Fans Not Pay Attention To Defense?!
Petey has been pretty good for us, but since we arent going to any postseason tourney, why dont we play DB, boozer and whoever else is young to see what we got for the future?

Boozer gave up points yesterday also. Eaton is a handfull for anyone to guard. Heck when Eaton was freshman Stinson had a hard time gaurding him

I'm just happy to see DB getting a few more minutes and heck McD even played DB and DG together which I have been begging to see. It only lasted a couple minutes, but I'd still like to see more of those two on the floor at the same time.
Neither SH, BP, or Buck are bringing enough to the 2 position table for this team to win. That is why DG and Booze should be the starting guards. Disclaimer: From only what I see and think and I am no expert, it is time to make the move for the future. We need a 2 who can make a move and make a shot. BP cannot make a move, SH cannot make a shot, Buck has no defense yet.
If the 3 with Lucca could make an offensive move to make a shot we could win more. It appears that we do not have any 3 options that can allow the 2 spot to be subpar. It is a visious circle.
If at the one spot Hamm or AT or JVB scored some more, it would not be such a problem at 2 or 3. We are still point scoring challenged and we cannot keep up with Big 12 teams when they pick up the pace if we do not shoot better.
I am still surprised how poor we move to rebounds and how much our players stand around on offense except for SH and how slow we pass the ball around the perimeter.
All the above complementary weaknesses throws my support to playing Booze a lot more.
Without changes, we are doomed for the rest of the year. CB needs more Booze.

Can you name me anything positive Buckley and VanderBeeken did on defense yesterday because I can't? Boozer came up with at least 2 hustle plays on loose balls that I remember and I don't remember him getting constantly burned by his man like DB was. I'm not saying Boozer didn't give up some points but he still brought it on the defensive end that I didn't notice bad defense like I did so obviously with Buckley yesterday.
Re: Do Fans Not Pay Attention To Defense?!
Boozer has the drive to take that extra step. CB is now doing that on rebounding. They both actually look athletic. BP looks the next most athletic on the tweam but he is only six foot tall and will be overmatched by Collins again. Start Booze at 6-3 copme Wednesday. That guy torched BP in Ames. SH can play if he can hit a shot.

He got beat and fouled right before a TV timeout in the first half. I agree Boozer needs to be playing more, he brings more to the game on both ends than others. We have saw ATs mins to way down, not it is time to look to the future and do so with another sr. I feel Petey needs to keep his PT up because he is like a coach on the court and adds a lot to this team that doesnt show up on the stat sheet.
Why not go with this?
DG
Lucca/BP
JVB
Ham
CB

Exactly. SH and Petey are gone next year. It doesn't help for next year if our freshman are on the bench, and our seniors who aren't the best are out on the court. It's common sense. WE NEED TO GET OUR FRESHMAN EXPERIENCED FOR NEXT YEAR!!!

Again, what does JVB bring to the table other than a big guy that hits a 3 once in awhile? Look, I like him in moderation but he's a terrible defender and rebounder for his size. Hell most of our guards are better rebounders than him! I really wish we'd involve Ham more on offense. The kid has shown some strong moves down low and if we'd stop operating our offense with him and/or Brackins making the pass around the 3 point line CB might be able to pass out of his double teams to Ham in a better position to score once in awhile. I really think if you establish that inside game with both Ham and CB teams are going to have a tougher time doubling CB knowing that Ham can back his guy down too. Plus you spread the floor more for your perimeter guys to get looks if you don't isolate Craig down there all by himself.
