Could next year's team be like the year 2000's team
I know i will probably be ripped on for saying this....But I can't help but noticing how similiar this team is to the 1999 cyclones, which finished at 15-15 and depended heavily on a very highly touted sophmore, Marcus Fizer. I cant help but wonder if this team could explode next year onto the national scene. We will probably go into next year projected near the bottom like the 1999-2000 cyclones, but just like them we will be returning our best player(hopefully, craig please stay) and will have solid experience returning in the backcourt. If colvin can explode and be a dynamic point guard who runs the shows like Tinsley did, then i can definetly see this as a possibility. Also if gillstrap is as good as advertised he will add a whole other dimension to this team. So with all that said, Lets go guys become the next 1999-2000 cyclones and put this program back on the map!

Not possible, because McDermott is the worst coach in the world. He couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag! -
Re: Could next year's team be like the year 2000's team
They have a chance to catch lightning in a bottle next year, I agree. Not to that level, but maybe a 6-7 seed in the NCAA tournament if Gilstrap is as good as advertised.

Well nothing like putting big expectations on Colvin and Gilstrap before they even put a jersey on. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves on this one.
I can see what you are saying, but alot depends on IF Brackins stays. IF Colvin can play at a Big 12 level as a freshman. IF Gilstrap adjusts right away. IF no one else transfers. IF we have the same coach.

We'll definitely be lowly-ranked to start the year, but one more scoring option, especially one that can penetrate, and this team is an entirely different animal.

very very good point. we got our fizer in brackins. colvin + garrett = tinsley light. lucca =horton. hamilton = shirley. and gilstrap = stevie johnson. plus we have a potentially better bench then that year had. probably not quite as good as that team, but who knows.

I should have been a little more careful in my own post. I was thinking that, yes, we have a chance to be a pretty good team next year. 32-5 is probably a bit much, but a really good team is quite possible.

Just remember no one thought much of us going into that year either...

Re: Could next year's team be like the year 2000's team
If someone steps up and comes romotely close to Tinsley's level of play at ISU, we'll be in the top half of the conference and likely going dancing. Tinsley dictated games and made Fizer look 10 times better. It'd be great to have a pg like that to complement Craig........That being said, I think the 99-00 team was far and away more athletic than this team. We'll see though.

I am not sure of the end result, but I'm pretty confident that next year will be the beginning of the future of ISU basketball. I think we will finally have all the pieces and the experience under our belts. -

I heard from someone that watched a scrimmage earlier this year that colvin and brackins had a great connection and colvin made brack look really really good. I guess colvin gave him like 4 perfect ally hoops.
