I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

The other items listed are either just fluff or can be done in the NBA. Plenty of guys bulk up and round out their game at that level. Education? Meh...money > education.
If we showed some potential to do the things you listed (that I put in bold), I would feel very different about CB staying. But, since we repeatedly show we're nowhere close to competing for a conference title and won't even be in the NIT this year, I'm not seeing the hope for these things. We need to be in the NCAA tournament next year for the sake of the program and Greg's job - but need is not always followed up with reality. Especially when that need is so, so far away. True that

He better stay or I'll have to start watching NBA games and those aren't as good as college.

Sometimes guys "come out of nowhere" at this and become high draft picks...sometimes guys with big reps come in and lose draft status.
Hopefully, McDermott will do what all quality coaches do with a kid of this caliber...encourage them to keep their options open (meaning do not sign with an agent and do attend the pre-draft events). Most coaches will seek out trusted opinions from experts they know to try and help the kid determine where he will be drafted. If it is in the lottery then it is likely a "no brainer" to go pro. If you are not in the lottery but in round 1...well, that is a tough one. If you are in round 2 then you should probably stay another year. Again, a quality coach will try to help a kid make a smart decision for him and his family.
If Brackins goes pro and is a lottery pick...you really cannot hold that against McDermott. Frankly, we should strive to have kids regularly selected that high from our program.

2. Mac is and has recommended exactly what you have stated.
3. For all those that say Greg has no eye for B12 talent, He could have very well recruited 3 NBA caliber players in his 3 years Michael Taylor, Wes Johnson, and Craig Brackins.........I'm just disappointed as I'm sure Mac is that these 3 have not equated into more wins for the program.

Of course there are other things that could push CB to the NBA... but his game won't be one of them.. this year.
Either way CB, I am behind your decision!

I would agree, the power forwards in the NBA would eat him up right now. He's not ready physically, or with his ball handling skill, and yes you do need to drive to the hoop, HARD.
But I wish him nothing but the best............ after next year!!!

Re: Anybody seen this yet??????????!
Before the debate continues, has anyone actually read the article? If so, does it say he is going to test the NBA waters or is he planning on staying?
If he says he is going to look at his options, then the debate can start.

If he says he is going to look at his options, then the debate can start. Pretty much says he is just thinking about winning this season. Doesn't really talk about the NBA at all.

Re: Anybody seen this yet??????????!
A couple things to consider about the 09 draft: 1)its is extremely weak in big men 2) scouts have it ranked considerably lower than 07 & 08 3)late first rounders are guaranteed at least a million. #25 of the 08 draft is making 1 million this year and #30 is making 950,000 + it increases in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. Brackins is a projected first rounder on Draftexpress (#20) and nbadraft.net (#30). If he continues his 20/10 average he likely given the lack of bigs in this draft and his considerable potential he goes anywhere from 15-22- that's around guaranteed 1.7 mil- 1.2 in first year salary which is a considerable amount of money. Now, I expect Brackins stock to raise- if he played for a bigger name school I think he would be a projected lotto pick by now. He can either chose the NBA and guaranteed money or school; its going to a tough choice for him.

He is likely a first rounder at minimum at this point IMO, the fact that he is a bigman in a guard heavy draft basically guarentees that. Add the fact that he is a PF that can stroke it out to 3 point land, while still has a decent post game and is a great rebounder and it moves him up to mid first round range.
