You may be right but there is a big difference in being selected in the 20s and being a lottery pick.
Let's say Brackins is selected #20 in the 2009 NBA draft (that's probably too high IMO). Based on 2008 $$, he would make this:
Year 1 - $1,063,000 Guaranteed
Year 2 - $1,143,000 Guaranteed
Year 3 - $1,223,000 Team Option
Year 4 - $1,886,000 Team Option
Total $ after 2 years - $2,206,000
Total $ after 4 years - $5,315,000
Let's say he stays and in 2010 he is selected at #8 overall.
Year 1 - $1,749,000
Year 2 - $1,880,000
Year 3 - $2,011,000
Year 4 - $2,564,000
Total $ after 2 years - $3,629,000
Total $ after 4 years - $8,204,000
That is a big difference. And if he stays and moves up into the top 8, he will get even more money.

Stay and go for the 8,000,000!!!!

Signing out of the first round means you can bomb in the NBA at the start and still be set for life. Not so much for second round.

I would be that many players would tell you this isn't true. If you are a late first rounder and only make it in the league for 2 years, you can make under $1.7 million. Assuming 40% goes to taxes and another 10% goes to an agent, that leaves you will $850,000. And you just know most of these guys buy a ton of toys and/or spend a good chunk right away (just like most of us would). That may leave someone with $500,000 or less for the rest of their lives. Most of these guys are 20 year old kids...try living on $500k for the next 40-50 years of your life and see how far it gets you.
Which is why if I was Brackins, I'd want to give myself the best chance at staying in the league for 4 years and be as high as pick as possible. And if scouts/teams are telling him he has no chance at moving up in the draft by staying another year, then he should leave after this year.

The more scouts see you the more they can see your flaws. I remember guys like DeVon Hardin, Josh Heytvelt, Trent Plaisted, Tyler Hansborough, Josh McRoberts being heavily touted as mid to late first rounders only for them to stay in school and have their stock plummet dramatically into mid to late 2nds. Look at Roy Hibbert- projected top 5 pick in 07- stays in school and drops all the way to 17th in 08. Look at the draft right now and Hasheem Thabeet is basically the only player that could have gone in 07 or 08 whose stock has risen. Joakim Noah could have been the first player chosen in 06 but he stayed in school and dropped to 9 in 07. Players stock doesn't generally raise if they stay in school. This next game against Kansas is going to be extremely important for Brackins, if he can just get his usual 20 & 9 his stock likely rises a little but if he can amaze and nearly repeat his last performance against KU his stock raises even higher. Brackins has a unique skillset, is only 21 and has a lot of potential. Guys like Jason Thompson- went 12th from Rider last year and Ryan Anderson- 21 from Berkley are similiar players to him. Look at where they went in a draft that was much deeper than this one. If Brackins were playing somewhere else in the Big 12 like Texas then he would be touted as a lotto pick by now.

In some cases yes, but there are probably 10x more players that increase their stock than decrease it. My guess is that since Brackins is relatively still an unknown at this point (where Hansborough, Hibbert, Noah, etc. where huge names), he has a much better chance at increasing his stock with another good year than he does having his stock fall.

Maybe we could have SH, BP, and free take more of the shots and tell AT he must get the rebounds or else. Right now CB is 20/10 bonifide prospect.
