He thought he was more of a 12 and 5 guy, but I don't think he knows what we will NEED from him... He also had heard the rumors that he may take his chances in Europe right away rather than uproot his family for 6 months, at least that is the RUMOR going around the FJCAA...
I also asked him who he would compare him to. He struggled with that and said Matt Walsh (former Gator) but not as quick and played a bit better D.

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
The 5 reasons we have learned at ISU why you can not base next years improvement on an incoming JUCO.
1. He may not qualify academically - Jerome Harper
2. Some wannabe agent may talk him into going pro - Earnest Brown
3. Something goofy may happen with the NCAA - C. J. Bruton
4. A family situation might force him to leave - Chris Alexander
5. He might not be as good as hoped - Jerry Curry

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
Agree with almost everything you said except I don't think DG's ever going to get a lot of time at the 2, could move over there once in a while if we go with four guards against some defenses. Also think Carlos Boozer will be a nice fit as a solid back-up at the 3 spot. He's got the build already, but could add some more muscle, (who couldn't?), he's quick enough to take guys bigger off the dribble and, with some work, could be a reliable outside shooter. He doesn't have a lot of heighth, but with his physique, better technique, and desire, he could handle himself inside, ala Grayer, Barkley, etc. I'm comparing him to those players simply as a standard about height and build. Strenghth and will can overcome a whole lot.

No sarcasm pirate. I'm serious! Now you did it, Gotta go change my drawers now haha
Hail Mary mother...
Please let this happen with a second year from Gilstrap!
This would make everyone's heads spin.

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
The critical variable for next year is clearly CB's decision. However, if CB does come back, we have a chance to make a major move. Keep in mind that most players make a big improvement between their first and second year of college ball. Most of our players are currently in their first year.
IMO, the recipe for a good college team is:
- A solid PG
- A few shooters
- 1 high-level scorer (17+ ppg) & 1 consistent scorer (12-13 ppg)
- A perimeter defensive stopper
We've got the PG. Diante is putting up solid numbers now and will only get better with improved talent around him.
We've got a dominant scorer (CB), and some guys who look like they may have the ability to be the 2nd option (JVB, Lucca). Gilstrap, IMO, has a chance to be the second scoring option next year. In any case, the second scorer isn't a sure thing.
Shooters we've got, although they need to be more consistent.
We do not have anything resembling a defensive stopper (see our efforts vs. Sherron Collins). Add in the issue that the defensive stopper probably needs to be one of the wings, and it really looks unlikely. It would be fantastic if Boozer or Lucca could develop into this role.
Bottom line, our team could be pretty solid next year with a little development and Gilstrap being able to step in.
PG - Garrett (8-10 ppg, 6-8 apg)
SG - Boozer or Lucca (8-10 ppg, solid D)
SF - Gilstrap (12-14 ppg)
PF - CB (20 ppg, 10 rpg)
C - Vanderbeken (10 ppg, 5 rpg)

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
I will be happy if he suits up one year. For some reason, I don't have a good feeling about him ever playing for ISU.

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
I like the optimism but too many assumptions.
1) Pomlee redshirted for a reason
2) Christopherson transferred for a reason
3) Gilstrap will still have to adjust to the D1 game.
Not saying they can't contribute in the future or even next year.
Personally I think JVB will start at the 4. Garrett at one guard with Buckley or Colvin at the other. Craig will be at the 5. Gilstrap probably does end up being the 3. That alone doubles the athleticism that we have had on the court at any time this year. Hamilton will probably be the first big in. As for Lucca, unfortunately, I think he has too many weaknesses and if his shooting is off(as it has been in Big 12 play) he is a detriment on the court. Now put him in a 6th man role and maybe taking a little pressure off helps him. Who knows.

He's a little raw, but he has a high ceiling, so it didn't seem worth it to burn a red-shirt year for nothing, and a year in the weight-room will help him a ton
2. He transferred because Crean left, no more, no less

Re: Outlook for next year (long)
The thought of Gilstrap going pro before he gets here makes me want to puke.

Next year may be a bit early for him, but who knows.
2) His coach left.
3) So would any juco, yet people are clamoring for more and more.
All speculation on future seasons is based on assumptions. Thats why is speculation and not psychic readings. We are also assuming that each players stays healthy and that each player decides to stay at next year.
You should join the group of us that prefers to remain optimistic. Its a much happier life that way.
