Hamilton was a great find by GMAC and shows his ability to eye talent. Gilstrap is a good job out of the assistants for finding the talent (or Horton). GMAC hired the assistants and therefore gets the credit, I was just replying to Aclone that the two situations were different
Fair enough. Similarly, I think McDermott deserves some blame of the program that a lot of posters around here try to delegate to the players. They're GMac's players.

Best case scenario: Brackins stays, Gilstrap comes and is a beast, Colvin has a first year like Mario Chalmers, we win a NC, and Mcd gets the floor named after him.....?

I won't argue with that, either. On the other hand, some seem to feel that McDermott is fully responsible for every action, shot and decision made(/missed) by players (and former players). Neither extreme is correct.

I think it was more a case of Gilstrap liking an offer from a big school, despite only having one year of eligibility...

He also had a Nebraska offer at the time, and if he waited he would have had so called "better offers"

There aren't a whole lot of schools willing to take a chance on a guy that is maxed out at one year and will hurt your APR.

Taking a Juco for one year will not hurt a schools APR.

I would freak out! Maybe these three years were just a decoy for the 09-10 season blowout-
Enter HB in 10-11, for another run. Ames would riot for like 3 years.

Being a JUCO transfer, he has to graduate in three years NOT to hurt the APR. All accounts are he wants to start making money as soon as possible and has only completed two years of college at the end of this year. That means he will have two FULL years to complete while playing pro ball. I don't see how that won't hurt our APR.

If he is in good academic standing...It will not hurt APR.

This is not true.....if that was the case then we'd never hear about the Texas A&M kid that served in the military and then went to college.
Yeck, there are kids out there right now that because of injury have actually been at school for over 6 years. Injuries and injury redshirts change the game.
There is a legitimate chance that he's granted another year. However, some things have to change regarding our fortunes with the NCAA and our past with them - we haven't always been granted similar treatment as say Texas.....
go figure!!!!!

It is true...from the moment you enroll in college you have 5 years to play 4...

The A&M kid never started school before serving. I have no doubt that Gilstrap would have gotten another year if he stayed in school...

So you think he will complete his second semester if he doesn't get another year? Guys don't have to graduate anymore?

How do the kids who take Morman mission years away from school get more than 5 years to finish!

I'm sure any athlete would have to go through an appeal process...I don't claim to be an expert on every situation...Just relay info that I know is right.
