Re: 15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010
1. Win the games that they are suppose to.
2. Keep everyone there no departures.
3 Christopherson needs to be helpful not another body

respectfully disagree. first off, i don't follow bball that much(i am a wrestler, and therefore a wrestling fan first). staiger i will agree-tons and tons and even more than that for praise last year. however, eik and buck didn't get holy status like he did. we had 1 guy that updated us on eiks season, and that was it. he told us how he was doing against his comp. and everybody was excited, but i don't think anyone heaped praise or unreasonable expectations on him. similar but maybe a little more for buck. i think he was somewhere in between the 2.
then again, i've been wrong numerous times before, but that's how i remember it.

Forgive me but I'm not sure where all the expectations about Pomlee are coming from? I said it before, there is a reason that he redshirted. Its my guess that if he does contribute, it will be in year 3. Hamilton will have more of an inside track to inside playing time. As for Gilstrap, he is being pounded with larger expecations that Lucca and look where that has got us...That said, here is what I would like to see for the lineup next year.
G - Garrett, Colvin
F - Gilstrap, JVB
C - Brackins(if not him then Hamilton)

C - Brackins(if not him then Hamilton) You act like a player redshirting isn't a common thing... Could it be the fact that he needed a year to develop his body? I'm not necessarily of the opinion that Pomlee redshirting was a bad thing. (from what I've heard part of it was to ensure his grades were taken care of, part was to develop his body - he has the frame but not necessarily the meat on the bones yet - and to make sure the problem with the blood clots in his leg were taken care of - more of a precautionary redshirt)
Personally I would love to hold on to Brackins. But if that doesn't happen, if Pomlee can give us HALF of what Brackins gives us AND Gilstrap ends up meeting all our expectations, then I think we'll be ok next season.

Guys that can "really play" are almost never redshirted except for medical reasons. The blunt reality is that we are in a power conference (not a mid major) and we cannot be loading our roster up with projects that need redshirts for no other reason than development.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

A lot of McDermott's guards at UNI didn't produce until their jr.-sr. years. This team has zero Big 12 quality guards. The only chance I see of this team competing is if Christopherson is what Tom Crean saw when he recruited him to Marquette, and Colvin comes in ready to take over. Garrett and Staiger will NOT lead this team to the promised land

(Off-Topic) Ok, jdoggivjc, Attempt #15 was pretty creative. But when is this guy gonna actually get to the other side!! I'm rooting for him!!

Re: 15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but freshman do not typically bring a consistent, high-level of play in their first year of play. Gilstrap and Pomlee may have flashes of brilliance, but, more than likely, they will have stretches of games where they don't contribute. The success of this team for next year will depend on the development and growth of the likes of Brackins, Staiger, Garrett, Hamilton, and Boozer.

Gilstrap will be a junior...and probably a one year player...he will contribute from day one and be a key player to the team's success.

Others on here think freshmen should be making a difference right away.

I take back my comments about Gilstrap - he could very well be a top-level player next year. However, I still stand by my opinion that counting on freshman to be consistent, high-level performers is a set up for disappointment.
Thanks for the correction.

Thanks for the correction. No big deal...I'm not penciling Colvin into the starting lineup by any means either...but he's just too athletic (one of our biggest weaknesses right now) to keep off the court...I'm sure there will be times when he plays like a freshman, but I think he'll see big minutes for us next year.
