Offensive Philosophy
I just don't buy the half court oriented offense at ISU. If we're going play half court ball and finish in the top half of the Big12, we have to recruit bigs of the same caliber as Kansas, Missouri, OU, and Texas. We can't.
But we CAN recruit guys who are 3-4" short for their position who are quicker than most of the guys trying to guard them. And though it's out of vogue in this era, e.g, Penn State's recent 38-33 win over Illinois (I saw this on the ticker and thought, "Why are they running old football scores?"), what if we tried to out-run people and score more points than they do? I think a previous coach had some success with this strategy.
By playing 50-46 games, aren't we ******* Hilton Magic down our legs? I could at least stand to watch if we were losing 90-86.
Am I wrong about this?

Re: Offensive Philosophy
There were a couple other more recent coaches who had success playing 50 - 46 games. Okay, maybe they were more like 60 - 55 games, but still. . .

Re: Offensive Philosophy
Its not about the bigs, its more about the 1-2 spots.
Not saying a great big doesn't help, but you can do it with a couple of serviceable ones if you have great guard play.

Re: Offensive Philosophy
Floyd and LE ran a pretty successful half court offense in Ames. Any offense can be run with the right players.

I nearly fall asleep our style is so boring...
Oh well, at least we won today!!!

Re: Offensive Philosophy
Wow ripping on our offense on a night when they actually performed well. Nice guys. Nice.
When we were running with Baylor, we were getting beat. We can't do it. We don't have the players. It's that freakin simple. I don't know why people can't see this. You don't just snap your fingers and say why don't we run so we can score 80 points. It doesn't work that way. When we have the right players, even with our offense, you'll see a quicker pace and higher scoring.

Re: Offensive Philosophy
One big difference with Floyd and Eustachy teams were they got to the line. Don't shortchange that, either. We got to the line tonight and it made a big difference.

Herbicide is exactly right! This is a guard oriented game. If the guards and 3 spot are athletic playmakers, with servicable bigs, you can make the dance. Add a really good big, and you are final four material. Think our last two conference championship teams - 99 - 01.
I think McD is going to get it done because he is recruiting that direction. Our guards are either too young or too limited to cause much damage yet. But in another year or two, they will!
