Win question
My upfront caveat here: Maybe this was discussed in a game thread, and maybe not. If so, feel free to post a link or just merge it into that thread.
I have a question about the win. This isn't meant as a jab at anyone, or to stir things up, but to generate some thought and discussion. (I'll probably slap myself now.)
I've read about how GMac doesn't have wins over more talented teams. Last night, Baylor was more experienced (started 4 seniors and 1 junior), more talented, a team that went to the NCAAs last year, and a team that had everything to play for last night (i.e. trying to get back to the dance, as hard as that is from their position).
Does this count as the kind of win people are looking for?

Re: Win question
It's a win...that's all I was looking for. There will be some slim % of the fanbase that will NEVER be happy with Mac no matter how good he does.

I can't speak for everyone...but I think a lot of people will downgrade this win because Baylor was 4-8 in conference and it was in Hilton...that being said, Baylor was definately the more talented team...and it'd be nice to see some of the people that are CONSTANTLY harping on McDermott's coaching to admit that he was far and away the better coach on the floor last night.

Re: Win question
At this point i'm not looking at quality wins, non-quality wins, wins over teams we shouldn't beat, wins over teams we should, I just want wins. Preferrably enough to go over .500.

Re: Win question
I think any win for us right now is big. But considering that Baylor is now just 1 game ahead of us in the Big XII standings, I don't think this can be considered that "breakthrough" win that fans have been looking for. In fact, I think only aTm fits that bill of the three remaining games this season, and even that's a stretch (although a road win against either Nebby or aTm would both be big wins).

Re: Win question
Sorry, no. Baylor's record is not good. Ignore what they were predicted to do.
Also, if I'm a Baylor fan, I would absolutely be livid at the gameplan the Bears came in with last night. They were very passive on offense and didn't push the ball against us at all. Never really tried.
Baylor allowed us to dictate the tempo and to our credit, we did that well.

Re: Win question
The win against Nebraska was actually a bigger win than Baylor. Of course no one knew that at the time.

I guess I'm not thinking signature win. That'll be over a Kansas or Oklahoma. I'm just thinking in terms of the idea of beating a more talented/experienced team sort of thing.

Yeah...I'd say Baylor's got some talent...or do you just beat those type of teams with mirrors?

Re: Win question
Any conference win, especially against teams not named Colorado is a big win at this point, but not a statement game or anything.

Re: Win question
Couldn't care less who Baylor has wins over. We beat UNI and Nebraska - and we're still a bad team.

Re: Win question
It's not a "breakthrough" win or a win that will be looked at in the coming years as a big win...but when you line our guys up against Baylor's...there is no way we should beat them.

And "UNI and Nebraska" are comparable to Arizona State and Providence...

Re: Win question
I'm quite happy with this win. Looking at match-ups (athletic guards vs our stable) I expected a loss. Despite the 9pt final spread, ISU had control of this game from the 18:00 mark of the second half. Another bad start (it sounded like...thanks WOI), but they rebounded well from it. ISU dominated the first 4:00 of the second half (finally!), and kept Baylor beyond arm's reach.
Good win, period.
