Keeler: Safe move for Brackins is staying in Ames

Re: Keeler: Safe move for Brackins is staying in Ames
Pretty much what I have been saying. Some parts of his game are ready for the NBA and some parts are not ready for the NBA. Either way Craig, I am behind your decision.
After his Junior year, IMO, is when he hits the sky is the limit category.

Problem is, at 21 now he will be given a year to develop and nobody will really think twice about it... Next year he will be 22 at draft time and will HAVE to be ready to play right away or he will already get the bust tag... He at least has to declare and check things out...

If he could stay another year:
-could gain some more weight, get stronger
-be a front runner for a lot of awards (big 12 player of the year ect.)
-work on his defense
-work on his left hand
-work on his ball handling (which I think is important for almost anyone playing in the NBA)
-unless he has a horrible year, he probably would improve his draft status.

One more year would greatly benefit him, and in turn would extremely help the bball team next year.

-work on his defense Also better to learn this from the pro coaches than in college, especially since he needs to be 'protected' from foul trouble if he stays
-work on his left hand also easier to learn with pro coaches that can work with him more than two hours a week

He probably won't see near the touches that he did this year. Re: Keeler: Safe move for Brackins is staying in Ames
I thought this article was from some draft expert or some NBA scout or a former coach or somebody that knows something. But it's from a writer. What Brackins does after the season will be key. If he looks good in the workouts, he has to go. If not, he stays another year and hopes he moves up. It's not like he's a 19 year old with tons of potential. He's 21, if he doesn't look good in the workouts it isn't a good sign for him improving a bunch in one more year. Maybe he tears his knee up in the workouts like Rush did and he's forced to come back another year. It helped KU in the NC, but none of KU's players actually moved up from where they were projected to go the year before.

Re: Keeler: Safe move for Brackins is staying in Ames
He is a great player, with tremendous talent. This article states what I have been saying about Brack all year. I hope he is back in Ames next fall and ready to roll....become a part of the potential Natl' player of the year hoopla. Heck, next year is the year ISU gets into the mix again....it is going to happen. A better Cyclone team and more hype in that category can only help his chances even more.
Remember Fizer blossemed in his Jr. season.....with the likes of Tinsley and Horton.....some better guard play will get him great numbers again...and some more wins to boot. I hope that GMac got the appropriate players for next season to get things moving again.
But if he does go, we can't blame the kid. I am behind him 100% on what ever he decides.....but I sure would like to see him in Ames next fall. He is a bright kid....he knows all of this is going on right now.

I wouldn't give up any amount of money I'd get in the NBA next year to stick around for this another year.

I really completely agree with the article. Stay another year and make the lottery money. So many guys end up out of the league it's not even funny...

Re: Keeler: Safe move for Brackins is staying in Ames
Everybody is missing the big point (besides cysball)
He will be 22 in October. That is old and will hurt his status after his junior year more than it will help it.
He is a lock to be a first round pick this year. Borderline lottery pick
He can improve his game more by going to the NBA where he can work on it more often
What happens if Gilstrap comes in next year and averages 13, therefore CB only averages 18? Do some scouts think his game is slipping? Add that to the fact he would be 23 when they draft him and he would be silly to not at least test the waters this year
