People have been saying this all season. This should not come as a surprise.

Oh how people forget that Mac had all the leverage when we hired him. Kansas State had offered him a deal the same day. Mac was looking out for his own *** knowing he was coming into a rock bottom situation. The fact that the years were specifically tied in to things that were going to happen as a result of the crap that went on BEFORE he got here was genius in my opinoin. It's a business folks.

Call me apologist, call me a realist...To me, this just further points out how bad this job was when he took it.

I still believe that McDermott is the right man to lead ISU into the future. He can obviously recruit, and that was the main question anyone had about him when he came here. We've had some really unfortunate turnover on our roster, but I think next year will be the first year of a new era in ISU basketball. Especially if Craig stays.

If you have a coach that is motivated by money then the program is already a loser. I would rather have a coach who is inspired and passionate because they love and respect the game.

Re: McDermott under contract until 2015?

Label me as a McD supporter. Label me as someone who does not see the whole picture.
However, before doing so, look honestly at the situation he entered. Look at his track record, regardless of where it was.
See the improvement in many players during this year.
See the game plans being presented, and if able to execute, were excellent plans, that matched the skills available.
Watch game decisions and adjustments. See the loyalty and committment in the players.
Watch the teaching that occurs every moment.
This man has passion and clearly understands the x's and o's
Of course assistants are directly involved in recruiting. Do you think that a player only comes to a school because of the relationship with an assistant?
ISU needs athleticism. Period. ISU needs athletes that can penetrate, beat their man off the dribble, and create their own shot. We have CB that can do these things in the 4 spot. We have noone else in the starting lineup that does. Until we get athletic players, it will not change. I am excited for Pomlee, Gilstrap, Colvin to step on the floor. Will they each produce 15 a game, no. Are they athletes, yes. Look at the difference on the floor in the last 10 games when Boozer brings his athletic ability.
McD understands. He has been producing the best product he could with what he has. Sit back and watch, rather than speculate that you know his passion, his skills, or the passion and skills of the assistants. Please.

As painful as it has been lately, I am a Mac supporter as well. I attended ISU in the Johnny Orr era and have been a huge fan ever since, so the current situation is difficult to watch in terms of wins and losses. A long term contract with Greg provides the stability necessary to build a foundation for long term success...I would rather have that than a year or two of success resulting in a coach depart for another school or other situations that effect long term stability. Go Cyclones!

Re: McDermott under contract until 2015?

I am still in support of McDermott and I understand he needed some protection at the signing point of this agreement.

However, in my as a fan and supporter of this program, this is way to long and irresponsible.

I am not very happy with this situation and as fans we have very few ways to voice our displeasure.

Re: McDermott under contract until 2015?

It's a surprising amount of time, no doubt.

If the extension was triggered, though, by avoiding sanctions that were very possible (guessing from context), then it makes sense that this would be taking extra time.

It may also make sense, seeing the increase in talent that is coming in, that we may have had to 'sacrifice' a couple of years to get that APR # up to an acceptable level, still have our scholarships to work with, and then get the players we really need.

I don't know if this is the deal. It makes enough sense to me as an outsider.

Re: McDermott under contract until 2015?

When McDermott was hired and stinson, blalock, carr, degand, and taggart left everyone was saying how bad we were and how it was going to take time to build a team. Not only did he get a team without any players, Taylor and Wes screwed us.

I like our team, especially when our best players are freshman and sophomores. If he keeps recruiting the he is we will have a pretty talented team, not just starting lineup.

I will only become impatient when he has a "veteran" losing team. It seems like a lot of us forget that this is a building process. We weren't very good before McD. After Floyds recruits were gone, it all went downhill.

I'm doing the Stan Marsh "grab your nose, shut your eyes and look at the ground and sigh". FML. I've been a really big Pollard supporter, and am excited about some of the things he's done, but between severely overpriced football tickets and his man crush on McD, I'm not as sure about him as I once was...
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Doesn't surprise me... I used to be a huge Pollard fan, but stuff like this has become par for the course. I've become so apathetic, it doesn't even really phase me anymore.

Re: McDermott under contract until 2015?

You guys need to calm down. Not many of you appreciate how bad the program was when McDermott came in. He has had some problems of his own but he was starting literally from scratch. He's had exactly one four year guy in his tenure, Rashon Clark. This team isn't that far from being average. If Brackins comes back next year, there is marginal improvement from the other guys and Gilstrap can come in and score some there is a real chance to win 20 games next year.

Even if McDermott wasn't under contract that long he needed to be given long enough so that is 100% certain he can't win. Another coaching change won't help. Constant coaching turnover is why we haven't maintained a winning program. Besides our problem is lack of talent so unless there is some big time recruiter that wants to come to ISU getting a new coach won't immediately cure the losing.

Right now, regardless of how everything ends up, it is a 6 year lock. Not a very exciting prospect to keep this fan base from becoming apathetic.

Hope not, but it is concerning and possible.
