Those are the longest trips in the Big 12 and in the Big 10.

1. Both have a pretty good shindig going in the SEC - the move is lateral at best.
2. Neither school is a member of the AAU, and the only way the Big 10 will ever drop that requirement is if Notre Dame wanted into the conference.
The Big 10 has two requirements for membership - be located in a state that already is home to a Big 10 school or be in a state that is located next to such a state, and the school must be a member of the AAU (except for Notre Dame). The only schools that meet this requirement are:
1. Iowa State
2. Missouri
3. Nebraska
4. Rutgers
5. Pittsburgh
6. Syracuse
My money on joining the Big 10 would be either Pittsburgh, Rutgers, or Missouri.

Re: Memphis to join the big 12?
Sad fact is, based on various factors, if asked to identify what school would need to be dropped to adjust the B12, ISU would be named in a heartbeat by 95% of the fans or majority of voters.
Is it right, accurate or fair? No, it is just the reality of how we are perceived and why improving the program is so important.

One slight problem: THE LITTLE 11 DOESN'T WANT IOWA STATE!!!
The big 10 wants Notre Dame and Maybe Mizzou!!
If ISU gets dropped from the big 12 because of not being competitive the best plan would be to join the mountain west conference!! -
Re: Memphis to join the big 12?
Why doesn't the Big XII add four teams and create a super conference like the Big East in BB.

Re: Memphis to join the big 12?
The BIG 12 NEEDS Baylor and Iowa State to help with the conference's graduation rate.

In fact, the Big Ten seems to have more crappy football and MBB teams than the Big 12 does. Yet, some here seem to think that ISU will magically become good if they move to the Big Ten.
I agree that ISU moving to the Big Ten willl likely never happen, thank goodness...hope I'm not wrong...

The old Big 8 looked at all options for ideal conference sizes when they added the 4 SWC teams. 12 came out as the ideal number based on the composite of the factors that they considered. They looked at issues such as wanting an even number, preferably divisible by 4. Basketball might be one of the few sports that you could set up a decent conference schedule with 16 teams. Most other sports would leave you with playing a conference rival every 2 or 3 years at best. In that situation, you are almost better off with 2 separate 8 team conferences.

Re: Memphis to join the big 12?
As long as some don't like the thought of the Texas teams in the Big XII, they are huge revenue makers for the conference and to most people are much more valuable to the conference than Iowa State is. With all the Texas teams we have in the conference, we're much more the outlier being so far North in comparison to the other groupings of teams (Colorado being even more isolated of course).
It all comes down to money. I would be surprised to see any changes right now, but if the conferences start to struggle financially, you'll see them either start to merge with each other or drastically change their makeup. Either way, I'd say we're much less "secure" in our position that any of the Texas teams are.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
