Now the BCS in football, that needs to be fixed! Bingo...knowing the NCAA however...the NCAA Tourney will be expanded to 128 before football ever gets a playoff system.

but I would rather watch Creigthon or Illinois State play this year than the 8 place Big Ten team in Northwestern....?

Re: Expansion of NCAA tournament
The time has definitely come to expand the field to 128. NFL Football – 12 of the 32 teams make the playoffs 37.5%; Major League Baseball – 8 of the 30 teams make the playoffs 26.7%; NBA Basketball 16 of the 30 teams make the playoffs 53.3%; NHL Hockey – 16 of the 30 teams make the playoffs 53.3%. There are 341 NCAA Division I Basketball Teams. Currently only 65 make the NCAA Tournament which is 19.1%. Expanding the field to 128 still only means that 37.5% make the playoffs. That still leaves a lower percentage than all sports other than Major League Baseball. I would definitely be in favor of expanding the field if the NIT, College Basketball Invitational (CBI), and the CollegeInsider.com Tournament were disbanded. -

Yeah...plus college football teams can't afford to be playing more games than they already are, but apparently it's ok for them to have a 40day layoff before the national title game?

I see your point on the little guys, but only 4 teams from a BCS conference is not enough. Look at the Big East this year. I believe there were times this season where they had 4 teams in the top 10. -
Re: Expansion of NCAA tournament
I agree that you have to draw the line somewhere and that is why I don't think you can legitimately make a case that it increases the competition or fun to expand the field beyond it's current makeup.
If you add teams, do you add BCS teams or more mid majors? Why should either of those get the upper hand over the other?
Would you have more matchups of conference opponents? If so, why? That's what the conference games and tournaments are for.
Would you allow teams with sub-.500 records in to the dance? If so, why? How and why should they get in even with tough schedules when very high above-.500 record teams are still left out because of conference affiliation?
Who says that more above .500 mid majors would be worse or better than more sub .500 BCS conference teams?
I just don't see how you can do any better than what we have right now, unless it comes with the play in game scenario - even that is a crap-shoot.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -

Just because they're better than most conferences this year, doesn't mean you can have a different limit for them than say the Big Ten that really only deserves a couple teams most years.

Re: Expansion of NCAA tournament
The fact that there are so many NCAA bball teams is precisely why the field should remain @ 68. Way to many mediocre and crappy teams among the 341. The NFL only has a few crappy teams and the rest are very close except for the elite.

The NCAA Tourney is the best thing college athletics has going for it...why change it? If anything the NBA should be making it more difficult to make the playoffs, and College Football should have less bowl games...but once again, that would mean less $$$, and I don't see them changing that...do we really need to watch the Cavs or Celtics play a best of seven game series against the Bucks in the first round??? Or watch a 6-6 team from the ACC play a 7-5 team from the Mountain West?
