Re: Eustachy a Class Act!
I would not expect anybody to voluntarily take a cut in their base salary, it's just my opinion that bonuses should be performance based, and when you're already making millions like a lot of high major basketball coaches and corporate execs, you should give it back when your team or company doesn't perform well. If our attendance goes down next year will GMac not get the $75K bump? I was under the impression that JP made that bump automatic in his contract as long as he's here.

You are probably correct regarding GMac. I was talking about Eustachy though. His contract says he gets a bonus based on attendance levels. They got to a certain level, so a bonus was deemed. The school made extra revenue based on attendance and kicked some back to LE.
38k sounds like a lot of money but for an athletic dept it isn't make or break. I was saying that it's more of a PR thing to try to keep his job, as opposed to really looking out for the school and saving them money. If he wanted to save them a lot, he'd restructure his contract or give some of his salary back. I'm not saying he SHOULD do it, I'm just saying that this story is kind of irrelevant.

Big whoopie. All hail LE.
Eutachy a class act...whatever. LE was a poor excuse of a man while at ISU and single handedly set this BBall program back 5-10 years with his escapades.

Re: Eustachy a Class Act!
It's pretty sad to blame LE for our recent basketball performances. He had a drinking problem and did some things to embarass the university, but if you saw him and heard him when he returned to coach the oldtimers last year I think you would have been impressed. He looks good and sounds like he's got his life together, and returning the bonus he didn't think he'd earned is just more evidence that he's trying to do what's right imo.

What I am trying to argue which no one here is really getting is that he did earn the bonus! He just didn't earn his base salary! Cut your base salary in half and make larger bonuses based on wins, and it's all good.
He's in serious danger of losing his job and this was a stunt to keep it. I don't blame him for the problems in this program in the past, but I can't see why people can't see past this!

No post season for Southern Miss in any of the 5 years. They are also pulling in the worst recruiting classes in the conference. I mean, I wouldn't expect them to be amazing, but you have schools like Marshall doing a better job recruiting than LE.

LOL..The program went back to the post season twice since his departure. Maybe the firing of WM has set the program back 5-10. Of course he was fired because bad things were going to happen to the program or some other ghost story. Its all BS. I believe its because certain donors didn't approve of the style of play. Well look what we have now.

Our current coach hasn't out produced LE in terms of W/L record and we have a potential lottery pick on the roster. I dont think the bashing of LE based on WL record and recruiting by ISU fans is very smart. We arent exactly tearing through teams ourselves.

I was using this to show that he is going to be on thin ice soon. My argument is he gave back his salary since his job is in jeopardy because I think it really is. He's had 5 years to put a program in place and simply hasn't, plus they play in a garbage conference.
This wasn't intended to bash Larry on W/L. Just to show that he probably won't be there long unless they turn it around soon.

Wherever you saw that didn't include the two transfers sitting out this year, Derrick Character (former Louisville pf and former #1 recruit in the nation) and Angelo Johnson (former USC pg who saw key minutes for their Sweet 16 team)...with those two you can count Southern Miss' recruiting class for next year as the second best in the conference, only behind Memphis...they will also return Saiquone (sp?) Stone, who was their point guard that was injured for the season midway through this year, and a couple players ruled ineligible for this year...as well as returning every key player on their team.

So......LE has a couple of down-on-their-luck transfers, a couple players ineligible, and probably a couple who will transfer out at the end of the season........yup, sounds like a typical LE program.

No doubt he takes a lot of gambles on players that other programs stay away from due to attitudes, or academics...if it works out for him it's a homerun, and if it doesn't it's a strikeout...IF (and I know that's an IF) everyone is eligible and still on campus next year for Southern Miss, they are going to be a very good basketball team.
