We need to start looking at and talking about others rather than "the messiah" Barnes. He is a great kid and ballplayer, but lets be realistic about our chances. I would say we are a 1/20 shot at getting him, and Duke/KU?UNC own the other 90%. I agree on our chances. Either way, I'm sick of hearing about him and he still has a year of high school left.

Right now I would say the odds are
60% Duke
30% ISU
10% KU/UNC/FLA

Fact is, lots of Duke followers look at HB as their "savior" to get back to national prominence...

Re: The Newest Harrison Barnes Thread....
I agree that ISU winning a national title in the next 5 years is not realistic. While Duke winning is also unlikely, it's possible. So which is a bigger accomplishment? & gets more NBA attention?
1. Barnes leads ISU to Elite Eight or maybe even Final Four
OR
2. Barnes starts on a Duke team that plays in the National Championship game

Regarding the educational importance in his life, the high standing of the Business Department at ISU is another very enticing reason to stay at ISU, Dukes business school is not even in the top 100. Why would her job prevent her from moving to see her son play?

We were 15-15 before the Elite 8 year when a win over MSU would have made a national championship more likely than not considering the teams from the other regions that made it in to the Final Four that year. Izzo said we were the toughest team they played. A whole lot of things have to come together, no doubt. But never say never.

As it stands, there are two things that will determine his ultimate location for his college career, because the possibility of winning a national title actually exists at any school - not just Duke.
Harrison is about education and family. Because of his lack of a relationship with his Dad (Ronnie Harris), his relationship with his mother is the most important thing in his life. This by itself may be enough to keep him at ISU. Harrison Barnes is not your typical high school basketball superstar. He lacks that arrogance about himself except when he laces up his shoelaces and gets on the floor. This kid is very grounded and understands the process and the pitfalls to making the wrong decision.
If his decision is to stay at ISU, imo he puts himself around the people that mean the most to him in his life. The future in Basketball will work itself out. His life, his happiness and his ability to maintain the things that mean the most to him all point at ISU not Duke. And in terms of Basketball - go to duke and be a member of a team of all stars, the newest 5* recruit will be treated like all the other 5* recruits - sit and learn the philosophy. At ISU you will be the focal point of the offense and your ability to mimic his idol LeBron James will be more realistic carrying a team and learning what it is to be the leader of a team, because he would be the undoubted star of ISU basketball from day one.
Barnes could be the face of ISU basketball, he would simply be another player at Duke!!!!! What are the chances you could go with GMAC on his next recruiting visit. After reading your post I would think you could almost sell us better than him or DR. -

OR
2. Barnes starts on a Duke team that plays in the National Championship game #2. Look at how many Kansas and Florida guys were drafted after they won. People don't remember the Elite Eight.
Your situation just points out on why HB might not come here though. People will expect him to get us to the Final Four or it will be a dissapointment, with a majority of the blame put on him.
If he goes to Duke and they do not do it, the fans will get down, but HB will not get singled out. All Duke brings in are McDonald's All-Americans so there is plenty of blame to go around.
I don't drink the Kool-Aid, and I am done making excuses. Only keeping it real... -

Who would one of his best friends be? Just initials I am not looking for you to out someone. Also, his relative list in central Iowa is real, real short and they are NOT talking to anyone about this crap. Of course, being so close to hsi friends and family I am sure you know this.
Harrson does more than give Greg the time of day - when Greg is around which os not all that often he has that whole day job thing. The potential for injury or length of playing career unknown, if you have your degree you will stand a much better chance at success outside of basketball. Ronnie Harris would be one to know this exact situation. So, from everything i've heard, he's very serious about going to school for 4 years and getting his degree... That version of the convo from Ronnie is abouot 3x's longer than Harrison recalls it. Not to knock Ronnie, but he is not in the picture enough to give advice and even if he gave it the advice would carry less weight than advice coming from CP44.
