Dirty Coaches - NCAA "rules"
I'm actually a pretty big fan of Jason Whitlock. Here is a great article about how hyprocritical the whole "this coach is dirty, this coach isn't" thing is. FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE BASKETBALL - Let's come clean about 'dirty coaches'
It always bothers me when I see people say they want Gmac to win "the right way" and all that. Look, any coach that is not breaking the 900-some odd NCAA rule book has no right being a major DI coach in a BCS conference. Frankly, I hope like hell we are doing at least what all the other schools are doing to pay their players and if it means more wins, more money for our school, more recognition for our school on a national/state basis I would hope every ball player at ISU has some extra cash in their pocket.

Re: Dirty Coaches - NCAA "rules"
I sometimes like Whitlock, but I have to take his articles with a grain of salt. Sometimes he takes a contrary point of view just to be contrary. Even so, I generally like him.

Who was the Hawkeye receiver that said "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin?"
Also, it's naive to think that our coaching staffs in most sports don't cheat in some way or another. May not be cheating on a big scale, but I guarantee we cut corners and stuff.

I think that's a great article.
And yes, I'm sure ISU is not squeaky clean.

Re: Dirty Coaches - NCAA "rules"
I am pretty sure there are dirty coaches. I sure hope Gmac plays clean. I am sure Tim Floyd plays dirty to land big time recruits at USC.

I love the closing line about seth curry. eerily similar to when wes got recruited from right under our noses. I cant help but think that something was going on in those two cases....but again, thats why those coaches win.

Thanks for the link. Great article.
FWIW, John Walters' speech at our Rotary luncheon yesterday dealt with asking for patience w/GMac, as he wants to win by doing things "the right way."

Re: Dirty Coaches - NCAA "rules"
Tark is quoted as saying that he didn't even start recruiting a player until they had "verballed" to another school. That way he knew who he was recruiting against.
That doesn't violate a "rule" but it does etiquette. I just love that story and wanted to bring it up.

Re: Dirty Coaches - NCAA "rules"
I guess you either do it clean or you don't. Some on here have already called themselves whoooores - its just the final price being negotiated. Illegal contact or buy the kid a car. Same spectrum of bad.
Anyone trying to rationalize breaking the rules really lacks a firm internal moral compass. But if winning means that much to you.....

IMO, Coach Cal and Coah Gillispie are the dirtiest coaches in college bball.
