If BF was able to recruit a couple of Angie Welle's (6'4") I think he would not rely as much on the 3 ball.....?

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
We are working on being a complete basketball team...I've been saying it forever, we need to push the ball when the opportunity is there and be able play on the half court when there is not an opportunity in transition. Looking at the players we have had...there was no other option than to slow things down.

I think alot of the problem was that we did not have the Athletes to match some of the B12 talent. That is why we needed to slow the game down, make it ugly (which is was). The true test will be if our Athletes are now equal to OU/KU/Mizzou can we run with them, press them, trap them and have some success instead of giving up transition points.
Only time will tell, but Mac has admitted that the B12 required a great Athlete then he had anticapated.

I think this says a lot for the coach. It clearly says that he shares the concerns that fans have and recognizes the need for change.... and now plans to change. I can't ask for more than that right now.
I also think when he says he needs to show future recruits that ISU will play more of an up-tempo game, that he is speaking to the likes of Barnes type players and potentially even to Craig that next year will provide more opportunities to boost stats. Because in the end, although it's a team sport, these players want to know the opportunity exists to boost their stats and provide them a stage to make headlines. Very well said. Changes are needed in the program to compete in the Big 12 and beyond...lets hope GMac sticks to it.
As was stated...GMac appears to be recognizing that changes are needed, and right now that's all I can ask for as well.

Mac did a solid job of keeping us in games for a time by slowing it down against those teams. It wasn't the Big 12 games I was talking about though. I was referring to the Hawaii, Drake, and SDSU games where if we would have pushed the tempo we would have ran the other team out of the gym. I'm not saying we needed to completely change our style for those games but we didn't even look for easy baskets.

And you go a little further back, Johnny Orr had to run a lot different game when Victor Alexander was in town, because Victor was way too massive to run up and own the court like a gazelle.

Those were the days. How many times a season did Johnny yell, "God Damnit Victor!"

Ya, I do not have the answer to that one (esp SDSU) It happens...? and not just to ISU, but at times they just did not show up, but at others were prepared to take on the world.
I came up for ISU vs KU, Mac's 1st year at Hilton, we lost in OT (should have won, JH missed a bunny at the end of reg). The talent ISU had compared to the 3-4 NBA players KU had was amazing.....
?? Did ISU perform above the heads, or KU not show up.....?
Depends I guess if you ask Bill Self and KU fans or Mac and ISU fans......

That day was electric, we were 1st row in Cyclone Alley by the Men's bench, hosting Dominic Buckley on his visit. It was not a sell-out and was told afterwards by Fran Franscilla that it was a good atomsphere, but no where close to as Loud and Rocking that it had been in the past. I will also add, that Steve Kracfism use to tell me stories when he was a Asst to Tim Floyd that he thought the place was going to blow up, it use to get so loud..... -

I think he knows he can get better and that he is well suited to do just that at ISU. There are a lot of players going in the draft this year that are in a similar situation to him and they mostly declared a while go. To me, this says that CB wants to get better and be a kid that gets guaranteed money that will change his life. Going pro this year will not do that quite like it would next year. Apparently he thinks he can still make dramatic improvements in the next year then....cause if he doesn't, his stock will drop and he would regret coming back.

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
It's good to see McDermott willing to make the necessary changes to win at Iowa State other than being stubborn with "his way," I think he this will make him much more successful on the recruiting trail. Still the most important thing McD needs is to learn better halftime adjustments. I don't know how many times we won or tied a first half battle and completely lost the game doing basically the exact same things in half #2. I am still optomistic that Greg can be very successful at Iowa State, but he cannot afford a .500 or lower season next year. The Cyclone Nation needs to see something to be positive about where he can take us.
