ISU MBB going up tempo....
McDermott only said that the non-conference schedule will be “much more competitive than it was this season.”
“We need to get up and down a little more, and if we want to attract that type of player, they have to see that that’s the way you want to play,” he said. Link -
Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
I'll believe it when we see it. Last season we were supposedly going to a DDM style offense, that obviously didn't happen.

Re: ISU MBB going up temp....
Was there a anywhere in the article?

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
I won't be surprised. We'll be a more athletic team and hopefully have the capability to go towards this kind of offense.

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
It will help to have a guy like Colvin rather than a guy like Peterson. Not saying Petey wasn't any good but he is not the type of player you want running an uptempo offense.

Petey was killer on the receiving end of the alley-oop though -

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
Interesting story... The whole 3-part series was well done. Interesting choice of words when talking about changing styles for future players. I can let my imagination run wild, but I won't.

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
GMac has said since day 1 that he wants to go faster but hasn't had the personnel to do so. If you add Colvin, Dendy, CB comes back, etc you have a much more athletic and capable roster that can run more.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
That was a good article and great comments from Greg. I like that he's basically admitting he's learning and growing as a coach and is willing to adapt and change. He doesn't appear bull-headed about "sticking to his past style".
I think this says a lot for the coach. It clearly says that he shares the concerns that fans have and recognizes the need for change.... and now plans to change. I can't ask for more than that right now.
I also think when he says he needs to show future recruits that ISU will play more of an up-tempo game, that he is speaking to the likes of Barnes type players and potentially even to Craig that next year will provide more opportunities to boost stats. Because in the end, although it's a team sport, these players want to know the opportunity exists to boost their stats and provide them a stage to make headlines.

I'm curious as to why he hasn't declared yet if thats what he was going to do.

Re: ISU MBB going up tempo....
He's still on the fence. My personal belief is that every day that goes by where he doesn't declare only helps show that he wants to come back.
I think he knows he can get better and that he is well suited to do just that at ISU. There are a lot of players going in the draft this year that are in a similar situation to him and they mostly declared a while go. To me, this says that CB wants to get better and be a kid that gets guaranteed money that will change his life. Going pro this year will not do that quite like it would next year.
