Maybe it's me, but I wouldn't call Lucca's game at Iowa (9 pts, no FT's, no rebounds) as an "all-Big 12 performance."

That's true...but that's one player...that was a post...you aren't gonna run teams to defeat with Brooks McKowen, Jared Josten, John Little, Ben Jacobsen, etc...even though they did have some good teams, you have to have athleticism in the backcourt if you wanna get up and down the court and be competitive with the best.
I can only hope your right. Honestly I was bashing coach GM often this year but did we really have the players to run? Pry not...I feel now we have some players coming in and players on our team that the only way they can reach their full potential is if we run the floor. And I think he will adjust to the players we have. I Hope anway...
We don't need them to look like ALL big 12 players...just a big 12 player would be nice. DG showed it more than Lucca imo.
My bad, I meant the Drake game, not the Iowa game.
umm.......Lucca vs. Nebraska?? Didn't he hit like 8 threes before halftime?
If DG can knock a wide open three down the dimensions of our offense would be completely different. Not even a challenged three, just a simple catch, wait a second, and then shoot a wide-open kind of three.
W/o the ability to knock a three down, the defender on DG can sag off, giving the D the advantage on his drives, or the ability to double-team someone in the paint.
That is tops on my wishlist for next season. DG has the ability to be a very good guard if he can simply offer a threat beyond the arc.
Coming from the guy who thinks that DG and Lucca looked like All Big 12 players based on 2 games in a over 30 game season :biglaugh: ....and used the Iowa game as an example
I didn't know that 72.5 points a game was considered a lot. It ranked 47th in the country that year. Otherwise Greg has never had an offense rank in the top 100. So you .... are wrong
Our team has to score at least 10 more points a game, to win. They had the chances last year, but the fact they didnt hit shots hurnt them. Also the 5 min scoring droughts have to stop as well as not scoring when CB is on the bench.
I think they lead the Valley in scoring his last 2 years there.
Luccas surgery affected his game. He never got into great game shape. Im not getting my hopes up on DG hitting shots.
I remember a few years ago, UNI beat ISU scoring 99 points. Mac was coaching that UNI team.
Its not the system that is stopping ISU from scoring more points, its the players. When your only good scoring option is mainly a post player, you simply arent going to score a ton of points. With the new players next year, I would think that they would be scoring alot more.
Seems like you're being pretty obtuse about this. You said never once did either player look like an all Big 12 player. He gave a couple of their best games where they did look like all Big 12 players. You complain that he's only using 2 games as examples. Think before you post, please.
DG has one problem to correct. When he takes it to the hole he needs to kiss his lay-ups high off the glass and let them drop softly into the bucket. He is transferring all of his momentum into a hard shot. If you have the Oklahoma game on tape watch the difference in the shooting touch on lay-ups between DG and their guard Warren.
The combination of Lucca's surgery and sitting out a year was huge in my opinion. Many players who sit out or redshirt a year are slow to get on track when they do play again. Lucca had the additional bad luck of having knee surgery at the start of the season. I'm hoping we are all pleasantly surprised by what he brings to the table next year.
Lucca has a lot of potential I think. It was his first year. He showed signs of good things but more often than not he didn't. I am curious to see how he does this upcoming year. Double teaming Brackins which will happen a whole lot more this year should free him up for a lot of open 3's. We have some weapons. This should be good.
Mac was on Deace/Miller yesterday morning and early on sited DG as a guy to improve. imo, he needs to be more consistent in all phases of his game. Hopefully teams will not be able to sag on us next season which could open up the penetration aspect of DG's game.
I am all for doing more running and a more fast paced offense, but you all need to realize what comes with that. What I mean is more turnovers and more possessions for the other team, if and when we do start running more, I don't want to hear about how we turn the ball over too much, you have to take the good with the bad.
And I stick by that comment. There was never once when either looked like all Big 12 players. Yes, Lucca made 8 threes in a game but that doesn't mean he looked all Big 12.
For the record, I am one of the FEW Lucca Staiger fans on this board. I think his injury hurt his mobility and played with his confidence.
