Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
It's wayyyy to early for this, but I am excited about next season. We know most of the schedule so I couldn't help myself.
The sched is pretty well set at this point, if it is going to be similar to past years. The noncon is shaping up like this:
4 for the Chi-town tourney.
3 for the Cyclone/World Vision Classic.
3 for the instate schools
3 For Cal, Houston, and Bradley
I think we'll win 3 of the 4 for the chicago tourney, all three for the host tourney thing, 2 of three for the instates, and 2 of three out of the others. There will likely be two other scrubs signed up for a total of 15 noncon games so I'll bet we win those two as well.
That's 12 noncon wins, although I'd bet we win about 11 because we always lose one more than I think.
As for the conference, our schedule breaks down as playing all the north teams twice and all the south teams once.
North:
KU: 0 of 2
NU: 2 of 2
CU: 2 of 2
MU: 1 of 2
KSU: 1 of 2
South:
UT: L
A&M: W
OSU: W
@BU: L
@TT: L
@OU: L
That's a total of 8 conference wins. Combined with the 12 noncon I have us right at 20 right now. Maybe more, maybe less.

Re: Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
We can win at Texas Tech and at Baylor. We will be the better team at Texas Tech for sure and have the most dominating player on the floor at Baylor. 22 wins is better then 20 but I think we'll need 21 to get in... although the big 12 should be loaded next year. 20 might get us in.

Why not win at TT?
I like the idea of beating A&M, since they're looking at the possibility of being ranked in the preseason.
If this team is as athletic as people (like me) think it could be, and gels together, I'd like to see us beat Texas. It could be the kind of ISU team that gets Hilton going, and Texas has a history of being on the wrong side of Hilton Magic moments.
I think we should beat all 3 instate schools, though winning at Drake seems to be impossible for us. I like your estimate with the Chicago tournament, though I'd like to win both.
We ought to beat Houston and Bradley here, and the latter should get Mac's record against the MVC near .500.
Cal is a tough one. I'll be ramped up for it, but it's hard to get too cocky about beating a tourny team on their own home floor.
Obviously, the World Vision Classic should be a good weekend of victories.
Nice write-up. It's good to see people getting excited about Cyclone basketball, even when it's admittedly too early.

But it's a long flight and I just don't know about predicting roadies as wins at this point. UT could also be a win, they won't really have a point guard (not that Abrams was really a point guard either) but I just don't feel that good about them.
Those two wins would put us at 22 wins and 10-6, and I would assume we'd be in the tourney at that point. I think based on my predictions we'd be on the wrong side of the bubble. We need to pick up a few more and I definitely think it's possible.

Who is in the Chicago tourney?
Good writeup...I agree with most of your analysis. I think we win all 3 instate games as Drake is the only road game (however we have played terribly there lately). I also think we lose to Cal on the road but beat Houston and Bradley. Best case for the non-conference is 2 losses, worst case is 5.
I think this is the year we upset some teams in Hilton. We've played KU well in Hilton over the past few years, same with Texas.
I think we go 3-3 against the South and 6-4 against the North which puts us at 9-7. If we can beat a KU or Texas, I think that is enough to get us in.

i would be surprised if we picked up another big name school on the schedule...i would just assume the rest will be some fill in teams

As for beating Kansas or Texas, let's just go ahead and beat both of 'em!! -
Re: Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
Very true that this a way too early prediction but we can only go so long without talking Cyclone sports...
I don't know about the game @ Colorado, you know how that always goes...I think 12 would be a nice non-conf win total to shoot for, but hopefully we are in much better form by big 12 play than this year. 10th place should be nothing but unacceptable.

Re: Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
Is the Chicago Tourney round-robin? I was fairly certain it was just a 2 game deal.

Re: Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
Maybe it's just me, but Drake doesn't scare me that much (and yes, I know we are 0-3 against them the last three seasons). They lose Cox and I think Parker transferred right? Young is tough, but if he has a bad shooting game they are eminently beatable.
I think the toughest MVC game will be against UNI. They (we, since I'm a UNI grad. and fan) return just about everybody and have a couple of good recruits coming in. That will be a great game.

I think you're right. Drake isn't that scary, and a certain somebody on our team has some unfinished business. That could include Drake, because we owe them something fierce.

Re: Too Early 09/10 Record Predictions
We will beat either Texas or Kansas this year in Hilton. They should have beaten Texas 2 years ago if it wasn't for Abrams being on absolute fire.
