Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
UNI or Drake would be a good fit for him. Alex Dorr wouldn't go infront of him if Doug did walk on, would he?

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
At least if McD jr. came here, we would maybe have a mid major type player that didnt think that they needed to play 30+ minutes a game and transfer to a really crappy school when they realized they aren't good enough.

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
While I agree with the previous posts, I think he could be a consistent 7-10 ppg / 7 rpg guy that would play a reserve role and give the starters breaks. Kind of like Klay Edwards was back in the day. -

If he progresses as a normal player he is a role player at a larger school.
If he progresses like he did in the second half of the just completed season he is a VERY solid large conference player who plays some in year one and two and starts year 3 and 4.
The otehr thing he brings to the table is a winning attitude and a know how to play in big games. Coming out of high school that is important for a school like ISU.

A lot of times it's nice to have a coach's kid on the team. At least you know they'll come in and play fundamentally sound ball. (I'll hold my tongue on the McD jokes)

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
From what I've seen of him, I like his game, and think he has potential to be a very solid player. He is very strong fundamentally, and would be a very consistent player. I hope he walks on at ISU.

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
I think it'll depend on how much he grows in the next year. He appeared to still be rather small for a Big12 center/PF but he definately could hit the gym and grow into it. But then again that's pretty much the story of any high school big guy.

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
I think if your parents work for the university, you get to go to school for free. I can certainly see Doug being a strong contributor off the bench. His circumstances certainly make me believe he will get better every year and could be the kind of player fans love because of his hustle and basketball IQ.

What in the world would it hurt to have someone like Doug walk-on to our program? He's a really good player. I saw him play several times last year and he the word that describes his play as smooth. He'll shot a three and before you realize it he has his nose in the middle of the lane fighting for the ball.
You do have a point, although it was excuted badly, Doug will likely have a decision to make. He could probably be a very good player for a mid major. If he walks on here, he will likely not have as big of a role.

Re: Doug McDermott offered by UNI
I watched Doug play 3 times this year and at this point, he is not Big 12 material. Actually, I'm a little surprised that UNI offered him so soon. I expected him to receive some offers mid-to-late summer after AAU ball, but clearly Jacobson likes what he sees already. From a comparison standpoint, Doug is less talented than Cory Johnson or even Clinton Mann, but probably similar to Clayton Vette.

He can actually shoot a basketball
He is not as strong or physical as Vette was, and I don't see him playing close to the basket at this stage in his career. Like I said, that could change
Cory Johnson was definitely more talented than Doug, but Doug does have size on him

I think he could be a good "system" player at UNI. They seem to have these solid kids that can fit into what they are doing and win games. The success they've had there makes me think Jacobsen knows what he's doing and knows what role he would play.

Cory Johnson was definitely more talented than Doug, but Doug does have size on him I wasn't calling him a replica of any of those players, I was simply pointing out that as a basketball player, his skills are comparable to those three. Regardless, you agree that he would never be much of a contributor at ISU.

As an upperclassmen he may even develop into some playing time. I don't think he's worth a scholarship at this point, but perhaps dad could pick up the difference.
