MN would be a good place to go for Academic reasons, and if you want to live in a bigger city where Gopher Athletics aren't the only thing going on. It's also a program that is on the upswing and will continue to do so as long as Tubby is there.

I would assume that the Gophers aren't huge contenders, but if Tubby Smith wants to talk to you, you can't turn that down. Their program is in better shape right now than it was just a couple of years ago.
Yea, but Minnesota's got that goofy elevated court...so...yea

Here's what cracks me up. When I say, "how come Minnesota can go from a 20 loss season to a 20 win season with only bringing in 1 freshmen (which wasn't his guy)?" People say "well it's because he's Tubby Smith, duh".

    Then

If I say "why can't Tubby bring in a guy like Barnes", people say "because Tubby is an overrated coach"

3 years ago, ISU was ahead of MN. After 1 year of Tubby, they surpassed us. Now that Tubby is bringing in his own recruits, they were way ahead of us last year, and will likely be the same the following year.

I'm not saying Barnes would go to MN, but I'm saying we shouldn't be all that surprised they are in it.

3 years ago, they had their worst season ever (9-20). 2 years ago they went to the NIT; last year they went to the dance

I'm not a Minnesota fan at all anymore (although I once was), but I find comments like this pathetic!
Not baseless at all. You obviously need to read up on what went down during that scandal. Many, many media outlets who investigated the story made the claim it was the worst scandal in NCAA history.

Clem Haskins is an absolute scum bag. And I'm not claiming that the program is still dirty. However, any school that allows that type of situation to go on in order to win basketball games is one I would avoid. Again, do a little research before you call me out for not knowing what I'm talking about.

    Do some research, brother.
Whatever. His teams at UK regressed under his leadership. He inherited a great team with Kentucky, built by Rick Pitino, winning the '96 national tiltle and losing the '97 tiltle game to 'Zona. Had they had Derek Anderson, things might have been different.

But the fact remains that his last couple of temas at UK were very sub par for UK standards. UK is reeling with players that he brought in, so he's not blameless there. I don't think he's a terrible coach; just not worthy of the hero worship of some on this board.

Look at it this way. Although most here could give a rats rear end about what the Gophers do, if he goes to UM.........you will have the satisfaction of cheering him on as if he was still one of us at least two, and maybe three times every year he is there.

Most poeple in the Twin Cities have no idea how the Gophers are doing at any point. Have you ever wondered why the Gophers have been only drawing about 30K-40K fans for Football and their bball arena (Williams) is the same size as Hilton.

    Ames Population - approx 50,000
Twin Cities Population - approx 3.5 Million

Yet, Iowa State draws about the same (if not larger) crowds.
The flip side is that Minnesota points to all of the businesses and corporations in the area - more options for summer jobs and especially the opportunity to put your name recognition to work for you when your playing days are over.

Take a look at how many 1 and 2 seeds Kentucky had while he was there. How often they won the SEC. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Tubby is one of the top 10 coaches in the country. His recruiting to Kentucky was his only question mark

Yeah, he's such a great coach that no one wanted him after he was fired from UK. That's why he ended up at Minny. Answer me this Tubby worshipper: Why would a top ten coach, as you claim he is, need to take such a huge step down, going from one of the elite programs to a scandal ridden losing program like Minny?

The references to the quality of the business schools will play about 1% in his decision. Let's be honest.
If if comes down to ISU or Tubby (which it won't) he would be much better off staying in Ames.
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE.

Tubby was never fired. He accepted the Minnesota job and resigned from Kentucky simultaneously.

Renovations and fire-code restrictions have led to a reduced number of seats.
