Harrison Barnes

I was wondering if a kid like Harrison Barnes works in the summer time. When I was his age I would bale hay, walk beans, shell corn, detassel corn, feed cattle and sheep, fix fence drive a tractor. I would do these thing during the day, play baseball at night, and then shoot baskets for an hour before I went to bed. To me it would be real sad if a kid like this only plays basketball during the summer. Does Harrison milk any cows?

I'd imagine you walked uphill to and from school everyday, also, right? If I was Harrison I'd be working on my game as much as possible, his future is very bright. I never started working full time in the summer until after my senior year before college.

Because there is a lot more to life than playing basketball. Learning the value of hard work is important when you grow up in Iowa.

Huh? I grew up in Ames and graduated high school 25 years ago. I never milked a cow. I guess that makes me lazy.

I'm sure the kid doesn't become the best player in the country by NOT working. I would argue that he works harder than 99% of the kids his age.

His job is basketball. It is going to pay for his college and make him millions some day

Of course theres more to life than basketball. There's also more to life than work. Friends and family come to mind, and having fun doing the things you love. Getting better at basketball could make Harrison a very prosperous person someday.

Harrison Barnes is working. Working very hard on his basketball game. He is most likely only two or three years away from possibly being in the NBA and a multi millionaire.

Sorry, I know where you are coming from, BUT when his Millions will be made playing basketball, there is no need to work on a farm. Especially sense he is a city kid.

I don't think Harrison got to be the player he is without working hard.

It's a no brainer for the family (if they can afford it) to not have him work and concentrate on hoops as much as he can. The tradeoff for a free education and possibly more down the line makes it a no brainer.
