Re: If the NCAA
OK, I will bite.
I do not think an Iowa fan would want that; McD would get all the top players. In fact someone should tell Lick that isn't the rule now.

Re: If the NCAA
Yes, but if EVERY school had to recruit only in-state players, it would neutralize the disadvantage. I think that Iowa State could compete with anyone in the Big 12 North except for Missouri.

What about state's like Illinois, where there aren't as many good colleges as their are good players.

Re: If the NCAA
What is it with you and in state recruits? First your mad because our only football committment isn't in state and now you make this thread? Buddy, there is more to life than Iowa.

But we don't - we play in the Big XII Conference, and we would get ABSOLUTELY SMOKED by every single school in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri, and quite possibly Kansas. It would quite possibly be the worst thing that could ever happen to Iowa State sports (short of voluntarily relegating ourselves to the MAC conference). Sure, we'd have Harrison Barnes - and who else? Barnes would become the most ineffective #1 prospect ever to don a college uniform because he'd have no one else credible to play with to take pressure off of him.

Re: If the NCAA
The D-3 schools in Texas would beat the D-1 schools in Iowa if this was a rule.
“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.” -
Re: If the NCAA
although I support this rule, I do think if this was a rule, programs like Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, and Illinois would dominate DI basketball even more than they already do because they could hand pick all the scary good players from the streets of New York, Philly, Detroit, and Chicago.

Oh, and for the record, in this situation, I would burn down NCAA Headquarters. -

I know you're talking about the north, but think about a school like Texas. They get the pick of the best of the Texas talent, and there's a zillion people down there compared to Iowa. Or how about Florida? Or California?
Yeah, certain schools might not get the pick of the best of across the nation, but the numbers would play against us big time. And certain other schools wouldn't have a chance, ever, no matter what, for the same reason.
