I'm not going to drop it until we at least get a proposal with some backing to the administration and get a yes or no answer. I'm honestly not sure about the best way to go about it, and that's something I would like to discuss as well. Email campaign? Perhaps setting up donations through an ISU organization that's already involved in such things? I don't know exactly, which is why I need everyone's input.
Re: The Johnny Orr Project
I just created a facebook group called The Johnny Orr Project, and everyone is, of course, invited to join. Anyone with knowledge of website creation gets a really cool title and becomes an officer of the project!

I haven't got that far in my thinking just yet:confused:
I'm just trying to come up with ways that I can promote this as much as possible, and thought a website might help that, as well as creating the possibility for enabling donations to pay for whatever we come up with. I think teaming with an existing ISU foundation may be easier, safer and more effective for that aspect of it though.

Probably true.

So you don't want to repeat your normal men's basketball performance?
Just kidding. Sort of.......
Re: The Johnny Orr Project
We should have a get-together meeting for this once there are a handful of ideas to pursue, and some information to work with.
Re: The Johnny Orr Project
I have nothing to add at this point, except that whenever I see this thread title, I think it sounds like an awesome band name.
"Now introducing...The Johnny Orr Project!!!!" *raucous applause*

Allen Parsons guest starring?
Re: The Johnny Orr Project
Funding is always a big issue. Raising money as suggested through an already existing organization would be the preferred way to go. A concrete goal for the project will raise money. A nebulous idea to do something without specifics will not grab peoples attention or inspire them to do something. Maybe several ideas should be put forth and then take a poll on the website.

I definitely agree.

I agree. Perhaps as our ideas develop, we should do a poll. From numerous threads on the topic, so far I see:
1. Statue in front of Hilton
2. Street named in his honor
3. Court named in his honor
4. Facility named in his honor
I think 3 and 4, in reality, may be cost prohibitive if you weigh the comparative revenue that could be generated by the university in selling these rights. I think it would take a lot of money, not to mention a massive wave of public sentiment to pull those off.
As far as fund raising, a partnership with an existing ISU foundation for this purpose would be the way to go for donations, and any suggestions and/or contacts for those would be appreciated.

I disagree about three being cost prohibitive. There's space on the floor not being sold that could be used easily, still leaving plenty of space for the Johnny logo:yes:
