Yeah, I guess you'd know better than Johnny, who has said time and again that you have to have talent to win games, no matter how good of a coach you are.

Of course, his corrollary statement is that some coaches do more with that talent when they have it, but the base sentiment is still there.

Why would ISU not take an athlete like Bubu, especially when he's in their backyard or front :P? He has offers for two sports d1 and d2 from what I've heard so obviously he can do something for ISU even if it is only to give an athletic body on the scout team. Just my outlook on it.

It was said earlier in the thread, but taking Palo is a no-lose situation. Unless he is so terrible he is just wasting time in practice or he is such a bad teammate he creates chemistry problems there is nothing but gain for bringing him on. And word is he is a great teammate, student, and a good enough player to contribute in practice.

As opposed to the bs we've been fed every year from Mcdermott about how this years recruiting class is finally the one.

The thing I do love about this years recruiting class is that Mcdermott's apologists all seem to believe this really is the one to get excited about.
Of course the main problem, all along, has been that our Coach is out-classed at this level. All you have to do is look back at last season, and see how time after time after time, we were in games, and then suddenly we were losers.
Our coach is purely incapable of making in-game adjustments that lead to victory.
He was out coached in game after game after game this year.
And unfortunately he will still be our coach next year. For what promises to be his fourth straight losing season at the helm.
But since even the apologists seem to expect a winning season this year, when it doesn't happen, maybe this will be the year we can end this disaster.

You always have great insight to contribute. Also, I think I might have already seen you post something similar but I'm not sure (Ever heard of the expression "broken record"?)

So outclassed we hung with an Oklahoma team we didn't deserve to be in the same gym as. Went to #7 Texas (who was overrated, but still was better at every position on the floor except for the 4) and we're in that game until the very end. Went basket for basket with Kansas for a half until we decided not to make a shot to start the second half. Turned around and hung with an Oklahoma team that literally had a better player at every position on the floor and we still took them to the wire. Were within 6 of a Missouri team with 14:00 to go in the second half that we didn't deserve to be on the same floor with. Were down 5 to a superior Kansas team on the road with 12:00 to go. Laid the wood to a Baylor team that was athletically superior.

I often wonder if you ever watch Iowa State basketball. We played games with all of these teams with walk-ons. Unfortunately for us, talent beats luck. We were one of the least talented teams in the Big XII. Guards win games. Our guards weren't very good. We didn't win very many games.

Our coach is purely incapable of making in-game adjustments that lead to victory.
Look at each game I just mentioned. I'm not going to go back through the stats from each game, but guess what, in a lot of those games, we pulled ourselves back into them. In game adjustments can only go so far. It could very well be argued that we were the least athletic team in the Big XII. Most teams we faced were very athletic and very talented. We weren't.

And unfortunately he will still be our coach next year. For what promises to be his fourth straight losing season at the helm.
I think, since some ******* on a message board is posting it's a losing season, we shouldn't play. Tell Brackins that he came back to be on a losing team. I can tell you from talking with him personally that he thinks this team has potential to surprise a lot of people. We were barely below .500 this year. A couple more rolls go our way, we're over .500. The fact is, we weren't far off. If Brackins doesn't have a boneheaded foul against Hawaii, we finish at 16-16.

But since even the apologists seem to expect a winning season this year, when it doesn't happen, maybe this will be the year we can end this disaster.
I think the only disaster is your posting. Maybe you should learn to do this wonderful thing known as research. Due to recent developments in technology, the internet is a wonderful place to begin this kind of thing. For example, here was a very useful tool in showing you how crappy your post was.

Iowa State College Basketball - Cyclones Schedule - Men's Basketball - ESPN

Facts are a real pain in the *** aren't they?

We get it... you don't like McD. Clearly not everybody agrees with you... but maybe if you keep posting how terrible you think McD is... you might... just might sway somebody....

...to not choose to play basketball at ISU. Way to do your part! Just blame everybody else but contribute nothing what so ever yourself. Should McD ever have a great season... I hope you take no pride in ISU's accomplishments... wait till he retires and we start over from scratch again.
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

C+....Wow, that's a ringing endorsement for things moving in the right direction. A real reason to keep the faith and optimism.

If you are going to base your outlook on recruiting rankings, at least use a more well regarded source.

I'm pretty far from a GMac apologist, but watching last season, it's pretty easy to see that ISU wasn't being outcoached. A lot of the losses, they were in the game for the first half if not longer. And many of them, we jumped out and had a lead quickly. I think that GMac had great gameplans, but talent wore out in the end. Guard play wasn't that good, which really hurt the team.

I think that this class fills some holes that ISU desperately needed to fill. They will have some guys capable of taking opponents off the dribble. They will have some guys that can get up and rebound and finish at the rim. I expect an NCAA team and will be disappointed with anything less than the NIT. If this team doesn't make the NIT, GMac isn't going to get it done at ISU.

That doesn't mean our recruits aren't better than what we had, though.

Not to mention that ESPN is only really concerned with the top 10 programs in the country, our recruits aren't McD All-Americans, so we're not going to get an A. But that doesn't mean they can't perform well, or at the very least better, than previous sets of recruits.
