Something has to be written to persuade him. We need to get him to believe it's a good idea and what the benefits of it are. If we can do it as a collective, unified group, then we actually could get something in the works... Yeah that's what I think too. I personally would be willing to help out in any way I can, so send me a message if I can. My check wouldn't be huge, but think if 100 people donated $20. $2000 can be a respectable start on a memorial I would think.

It would be funny to have Orr drive between University and Beach. The problem all ISU students face, University Orr Beach. Bit of a stretch but I thought it was funny.

Re: The Johnny Orr Project (update)
kids, what we forget is that Coach Orr, who was fantastic to ISU is just one contributor. Hell, a year ago people were calling for a Cael statue.
Maybe we name the basketball practice facility after Orr? Kind of like they did with Johnny Majors practice field at Bergstrom, or whatever.

Orr drive would be okay (better than center drive), or I can even see naming the court after him (however I think they currently sell the naming rights). I have the feeling that the practice facility will be named after the developer.

Is Johnny really about to be reduced to less than Dickson Jensen?? Either name the facility after him, or name something at the Iowa State Center after him. I suppose we could call the court 'The Johnny Orr Hardwood at the Dickson Jensen Practice Facility.' Sounds about as ridiculous as putting Johnny Orr below some donor who builds lots of apartments in Ames and happened to donate some money.

These questions led me to thinking that a statue is the way to go. It wouldn't interfere with any naming rights opportunities, and it would make a sure photo op for anyone visiting Hilton. Thank you to everyone who joined today! I am encouraged that we can attain the type of support we need to make it a reality. -

Everytime I look at pictures of the court (since this came up), there is plenty of room for sponsors and naming the court. That Pioneer logo occurs once on each side of the court, and a Johhny Orr tribute logo could fit easily where the Pioneer logo isn't. (And it can't be real expensive).

I really like Johnny Orr court in Hilton Coleseum, but I'm afraid it'd quickly become known as Johnny's Orr House.

This would be the biggest travesty in ISU Athletics.
Recognition of Coach Orr needs to be done at Hilton or on the Iowa State Center area. That's where he brought the magic too, not out in west Ames. Hell, when he coached that area was simply referred to as "half way to Boone".

Re: The Johnny Orr Project (update)
Logically shouldn't it be centered around Hilton? Had Johnny Orr not come to Iowa State would there even be a phrase "Hilton Magic?"
-
Re: The Johnny Orr Project (update)
I just quickly posted....so I don't know if this has been said.
But the street before Hilton should be called Johnny Orr Way or BLVD. What is it now?
Prettry sure that everyone would know the name of the street when Johnny's name is on it.
